Sahibzada Farhan's Blazing Half-Century Powers Pakistan to 168/8 in 3rd T20I Against Sri Lanka

RAWALPINDI: Leading from the front with a masterful exhibition of top-order batting, skipper Sahibzada Farhan propelled the hosts into a position of strength. Pakistan scored 168/8, setting a competitive target for the visitors who are desperately seeking to salvage pride and avoid a comprehensive series whitewash.

Having already secured an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match bilateral assignment, Pakistan opted to test their bench strength by blooding new faces and handing opportunities to fringe players. Sri Lanka’s captain, Kusal Mendis, won 3rd T20I toss and raised no eyebrows by choosing to bowl first under the evening lights. The decision yielded immediate dividends when Malinga struck in powerplay.

The early breakthrough forced Pakistan into a temporary shell. However, Sahibzada Farhan’s half-century completely changed the momentum of the innings. He reached his milestone off just 31 deliveries, anchoring the crease with an impressive combination of standard cricketing strokes and ferocious boundary hitting.

Farhan eventually departed after a stellar 76 off 47 deliveries, a knock decorated with 7 boundaries and 3 maximums.

While Farhan held the fortress at one end, Sri Lanka’s veteran all-rounder Dasun Shanaka tore through the Pakistani middle order with an exceptionally disciplined spell. Shanaka broke the backbone of the hosts' batting card. He claimed the prized scalp of Khawaja Nafay for 3 before returning to dismiss Mohammad Imran (6) and Abdul Samad (15) in quick succession. Shanaka finished his highly impactful 4 overs with 3 for 21.

Just as Sri Lanka threatened to restrict the score under the 150-run mark, youngster Arafat Minhas provided a much-needed late-innings explosion. Minhas launched an aggressive counter-attack against the death bowlers. He smashed an unbeaten 34 off just 20 deliveries, a blazing cameo that featured 2 fours and 2 sixes.

Alongside minor contributions, Minhas added essential runs in the final two overs to shift the pressure back onto the Sri Lankan dugout. Nuwan Thushara and Eshan Malinga both chipped in with two wickets apiece, but they proved expensive, each leaking 38 runs from their respective four overs.

With the first phase of the match concluded, the stage is set for a thrilling chase at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium. Pakistan's bowlers will look to exploit the scoreboard pressure to complete a historic 3-0 sweep on home soil.

Meanwhile, Sri Lanka's top order must step up significantly to conquer a target of 169 and register their first victory of what has been a challenging tour.
