Rain Stops Pakistan vs England 1st Test With Pakistan at 23/2
Rain interrupted the opening day of the first Test between Pakistan and England at Headingley, stopping play during the first session.
Pakistan were 23/2 after 9.4 overs when heavy rain forced the players off the field. England had won the toss and decided to bowl first, and their bowlers made good use of the cloudy conditions.
Ollie Robinson was England’s best bowler in the opening session. He struck with the first ball of the match, dismissing Azan Awais for 0. Robinson then removed Shan Masood for 5, leaving Pakistan in early trouble at 6/2. Robinson had excellent figures of 2/12 from five overs before the rain arrived.
After the two early wickets, Abdullah Shafique and Imam-ul-Haq started to rebuild Pakistan’s innings. Shafique was unbeaten on 12 from 19 balls, while Imam was on 5 from 18 balls. Their partnership had reached 17 runs when play was stopped.
England’s other bowlers also kept Pakistan under pressure. Jofra Archer bowled two maiden overs without giving away a run, while Gus Atkinson was bowling when the rain became heavier and the players were called off the field.
Pakistan will hope Shafique and Imam can continue their partnership when play resumes and help the team recover from the difficult start. England, meanwhile, will look to take more wickets and continue their strong bowling performance.
The match is the first Test of the three-match Pakistan tour of England 2026, with the opening Test being played at Headingley in Leeds.
