Abdullah Shafique Enters Pakistan's Record Books with Unbeaten 160 Against West Indies
Pakistan opener Abdullah Shafique achieved a major milestone in his Test career after scoring an unbeaten 160 on the third day of the second Test against West Indies.
The opener reached his sixth Test century and played a key role in giving Pakistan a 43-run advantage in the ongoing contest. West Indies were earlier bowled out for 344, after which Pakistan posted 387 in their first innings.
Coming back after the lunch break, Pakistan managed to add 54 more runs before their innings came to an end. Shafique played confidently and became the only batter to stay unbeaten throughout the innings.
He played a long innings of 323 balls, hitting 15 boundaries and three sixes on his way to 160. With this effort, he became the only fifth Pakistan batter to score 150 or more runs in a Test innings against West Indies in the Caribbean.
Shafique's name was added to a special list that includes Hanif Mohammad, Wazir Mohammad, Majid Khan and Saeed Ahmed, who all produced some of Pakistan's biggest Test scores in the West Indies.
Hanif Mohammad still holds the record for the highest individual Test score by a Pakistan batter against West Indies in the Caribbean. He scored a historic 337 in Bridgetown in 1958.
Earlier in the day, Shafique and Sajid Khan kept the West Indies bowlers under pressure with a steady 59-run stand for the seventh wicket. Jayden Seales eventually broke the partnership by getting Sajid caught behind, who scored 30 off 72 balls.
Shafique continued to hold one end after Sajid's exit and teamed up with Ali Usman for a short 17-run partnership. Usman stayed at the crease for a brief period and scored 10 runs before Jomel Warrican sent him back in the 115th over.
Afterwards, Shafique crossed 150 but began running out of partners as West Indies continued to pick up wickets. Eventually, Pakistan's tail was wrapped up, with Abdullah Shafique's unbeaten 160 helped the visitors post 387 on the board.
