New Zealand Take Control as England Face Tough Chase in Nottingham Test

New Zealand tightened their hold on the third Test against England at Nottingham after a steady batting effort in the second innings pushed their lead beyond 250 runs.

After posting 438 in their first innings, New Zealand had already placed England under pressure. England replied with 354, leaving the visitors with an 84-run advantage. That lead became more important as the pitch started to offer more help to bowlers and batting became less simple.

England did make early progress in New Zealand’s second innings. Their bowlers removed three wickets before the visitors could completely settle, giving the home side some hope of fighting back in the deciding Test.

However, Rachin Ravindra once again stood firm. He looked confident at the crease and helped New Zealand rebuild after the early setbacks. Although he missed out on a century, his innings gave the visitors control at a key stage of the match.

Daryl Mitchell also played a patient hand and supported Ravindra well. His calm approach allowed New Zealand to absorb pressure and slowly move the match away from England’s reach.

By reaching 180 for 4, New Zealand stretched their lead to 264 runs. On a surface that is beginning to show signs of wear, that total already looks challenging for England.

The match now appears to be moving into a difficult phase for the hosts. England will need quick wickets to stop New Zealand from pushing the target even higher. If the lead grows much further, the final chase could become extremely tough.

New Zealand, on the other hand, will feel it is in a stronger position. Their bowlers already showed discipline in England’s first innings, and with a larger target to defend, they could become even more dangerous.
