Nahid Rana and Mosaddek Hossain Script History in BAN vs AUS 1st ODI

Nahid Rana and Mosaddek Hossain Script History in BAN vs AUS 1st ODI

DHAKA: In a stunning turn of events that will be remembered for generations, Bangladesh produced a monumental chapter in their cricket history. A clinical all-round performance saw BAN defeat AUS by 86 runs via the Duckworth-Lewis-Stern (DLS) method in the first One-Day International at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium on Tuesday.

This emphatic victory marks the hosts' first-ever ODI triumph over Australia on home soil.

Mosaddek and Shanto Power the Tigers

Asked to bat first, Bangladesh recovered from early tremors to post a formidable 284 for 8 in their allotted 50 overs. The innings was anchored beautifully by skipper Najmul Hossain Shanto, whose 67 provided the initial stability. However, the true impetus came from the blade of Mosaddek Hossain. Coming lower down the order, Mosaddek played a masterpiece of an innings, blasting an unbeaten 86 off just 70 deliveries.

His counter-attacking knock, laced with boundary-clearing strikes, completely shifted the momentum away from the visiting world champions. For Australia, Nathan Ellis finished with 3 for 38, but the death-overs onslaught left the visitors with a steep chase.

Rana Tangles the Aussie Chase

Chasing a demanding target under threatening skies, Australia’s reply never gained true momentum. The marquee Ban vs Aus 1st ODI clash quickly turned into a trial by pace and spin for the traveling batsmen. Bangladesh’s young speed sensation, Nahid Rana, produced a spell of ferocious, hostile fast bowling that tore through the Australian top and middle order. Rana’s raw pace proved too hot to handle as he finished with magnificent match-winning figures of 4 for 41.

Despite a fighting, unbeaten 52 from all-rounder Cameron Green and a resilient 47 from wicketkeeper-batsman Alex Carey, Australia found themselves completely choked by the disciplined Bangladeshi bowling attack. The tourists collapsed to a dismal 191 for 9 in 42.2 overs before a violent thunderstorm opened up over Dhaka.

Storm Seals Historical Triumph

With heavy rain halting play permanently and Australia far behind the required par score, the DLS calculations sealed the deal. The official confirmation that Ban defeats Aus triggered wild celebrations both on the field and across the nation. This victory is only Bangladesh's second ODI win against Australia in their history

As the dust settles on this thrilling opening fixture, the Ban vs Aus series now moves into fascinating territory. With Bangladesh holding a 1-0 lead, Australia faced an immediate uphill battle to rescue their pride and salvage the three-match series.

The teams will meet again at the same venue on June 11 for the second ODI, where the visitors will desperately search for answers against an inspired tiger den.
