Myles Lewis-Skelly says Arsenal fully understand what it takes to win their first Premier League title in over 20 years. The Gunners came one step closer to the trophy with a 1-0 win over West Ham on Sunday. The home side thought they had scored a late equaliser, but it was ruled out after a long VAR check.
The win against West Ham put Arsenal five points ahead of second-placed Manchester City, with two matches left to play. They will face already-relegated Burnley at home and then Crystal Palace away, before taking on Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League final on May 30.
Reflecting on the latest triumph, Lewis-Skelly said that it is a special moment for the team, however, they need to stay grounded to keep their focus on winning the Premier League title.
"We have to stay humble. (The dressing room is) just joy, excitement, fulfilment, everything you can describe. We are buzzing, but we know that the job is not done.” said the rising Arsenal star Myles Lewis-Skelly.
He then urged the team to prepare well for the upcoming finals, as winning the upcoming games is hugely important to end their season on a winning note.
"We have got two more (domestic) 'finals' (against Burnley and Palace) left now, and we have to take each game as it comes. The next one is Burnley - and then we go on from there.” said Myles Lewis-Skelly.
"As players, as a fan myself, it's easy to think about what could be. But, it is important that we stay in the moment. We have to stay on it." added Myles Lewis-Skelly.
Lewis-Skelly made his mark last season, but he couldn’t get regular minutes under Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta for most of the campaign. That changed when he was handed a chance against Fulham earlier this month, and he has been in the starting lineup in every game since.
"It was tough initially. But, for me, I pride myself on having mental strength. Sport is not one pathway, because there are ups and downs. And it's how you bounce back from that, and how you are in those moments when you face adversity. That is what defines you.” Myles Lewis-Skelly.
