Multan Sultans have appointed Shan Masood as Vice captain for PSL 11, confirming the leadership change ahead of the upcoming season of the Pakistan Super League. The franchise announced the decision on social media, sharing a video message featuring the Pakistan Test captain.
Masood returns to a leadership role with the Sultans after previously captaining the side during an earlier season.
The captaincy change comes after a long leadership tenure under Mohammad Rizwan, who had led the franchise in multiple seasons and guided them to their first PSL title. Rizwan will not captain the Sultans this season, as he is set to lead the new PSL franchise Pindiz in PSL 11.
The team confirmed that Australian all-rounder Ashton Turner will lead the side in the upcoming season as well, continuing his role as captain in the squad structure. Turner has played in several T20 leagues around the world, including the Big Bash League and other franchise tournaments, and has experience in leadership roles in domestic competitions.
The upcoming season has also seen structural changes involving the Multan franchise. Ownership and branding adjustments earlier in the year led to changes in the team structure before the squad was finalised for PSL 11.
Despite the off-field changes, the franchise confirmed its participation and finalised its squad ahead of the tournament. The squad includes a mix of local and international players such as Mohammad Nawaz, Steve Smith, Peter Siddle, Tabraiz Shamsi and Josh Philippe alongside Shan Masood and Ashton Turner.
The franchise will now head into PSL 11 with a revised leadership structure and a newly assembled squad for the upcoming season.
