Pakistan clinched the ODI series against South Africa by defeating the visitors comprehensively in the 3rd ODI at Faisalabad. The green shirts won the match by a big margin of 7 wickets, as they chased a small target of 144 runs inside 25 overs. Saim Ayub played a pivotal role in the second innings, scoring 77 runs off 70 balls to set the tone for Pakistan’s chase.
Besides Saim, the performance of Abrar Ahmed in the first innings was also crucial, as his bowling spell of 4/27 in 10 overs strangled the batting lineup of South Africa.
Reacting to this great victory, the Chairman of PCB, Mohsin Naqvi, congratulated the team on their remarkable performance against South Africa. He credited the success as a result of all-round team effort that was on full display during the ODI series.
The players performed well and won the ODI series after the T20Is. Abrar Ahmed played a prominent role in the victory with excellent bowling, and Saim Ayub delivered a brilliant batting performance,” said Mohsin Naqvi after Pakistan sealed the series by a margin of 2-1.
The head of the PCB then congratulated the coach and captain of the Pakistan team, saying that their visionary leadership led Pakistan to a stunning victory against South Africa.
“I congratulate captain Shaheen Shah Afridi, head coach Mike Hesson, all players and the coaching staff on winning the series on home ground,” said Mohsin Naqvi.
Speaking about the revival of international cricket in Faisalabad, the Chairman said that the players relived many memories while playing at the iconic Iqbal Stadium. It should be noted that Faisalabad hosted international cricket after a long period of 17 years, so it was a big achievement of all the stakeholders involved in this series.
“The players revived fond memories of the past by winning the series at Iqbal Stadium after 17 years. Fans showed great enthusiasm in all three matches as international cricket returned to Faisalabad.” said Mohsin Naqvi.
Pakistan will now play its next ODI series against Sri Lanka in Rawalpindi. It is slated to start from November 11, giving fans yet another opportunity to witness high-profile cricket in Pakistan. The green shirts are confident that they will carry the same momentum into the Sri Lanka series, however, it could prove to be a more tough challenge for them.
