Matthew Hayden Appointed as Gujarat Titans Batting Coach for IPL 2026

Gujarat Titans have confirmed the appointment of Australian legend Matthew Hayden as their batting coach for the 2026 season of the Indian Premier League. The franchise announced the development on Tuesday as preparations continue for the upcoming campaign. Hayden, widely regarded as one of the most aggressive openers of his generation, is expected to help shape the team’s batting approach and guide young players in the squad.

The Ahmedabad based side will begin their IPL 2026 campaign on March 28. Hayden will be part of the coaching unit led by head coach Ashish Nehra and Director of Cricket Vikram Solanki, as the Titans aim to strengthen their batting performance for the new season.

Following the announcement, Hayden shared his vision for the team and stated that the standard for the Titans would be to "own the game" through great batting.

Legendary Career and IPL Experience

Hayden enjoyed an outstanding international career, playing 273 matches across formats and scoring more than 15,000 runs for Australia. Known for his powerful stroke play and fearless approach, he helped redefine aggressive opening in modern cricket.

Apart from his international achievements, Hayden also has experience in the IPL. He represented Chennai Super Kings in 32 matches, winning the Orange Cap in 2009 and playing a part in the franchise’s title victory in 2010. His familiarity with the tournament is seen as an important factor behind his appointment.

Solanki described Hayden’s arrival as a significant moment for the franchise, calling it a "pivotal phase" as the team continues to develop its cricketing structure.

Focus on Titans’ Core Batting Group

One of Hayden’s main responsibilities will be working closely with captain Shubman Gill and promising batter Sai Sudharsan. The Titans believe his experience in high pressure cricket can help the team improve its scoring rate and attacking mindset.

Hayden also emphasized the importance of dominant batting in T20 cricket. According to him, while good batting can challenge opponents, great batting allows a team to dictate the pace of the match.

As IPL 2026 approaches, Gujarat Titans are focused on building a stronger batting unit. With Hayden now part of the coaching staff, the 2022 champions hope his experience will guide them toward another successful campaign.
