Smriti Mandhana and Pratika Rawal created history in Navi Mumbai as India posted 340 for 3 against New Zealand. This is now India’s highest total in the Women’s World Cup, going past their previous best of 330 against Australia in Visakhapatnam earlier in the tournament.

It also stands as the second-highest total by any team against New Zealand in women’s ODIs. The only higher total remains England’s 347 for 5 at Canterbury in 2021.

Smriti Mandhana’s century was her 14th in ODIs. With this, she now has the second-most hundreds in women’s cricket, only behind Meg Lanning’s 15. Across all formats, Mandhana now has 17 hundreds, equalling Lanning’s record for the most by a woman in international cricket.

Pratika Rawal continued her fine form and reached 1000 runs in just 23 innings. She has now become the joint-fastest player to achieve this mark in women’s ODIs, equalling the long-standing record set by Lindsay Reeler in 1988.

Mandhana also crossed another major record during the innings. She now has 5194 runs as an opener in ODIs, moving past Suzie Bates’ 5088 runs to become the most successful opening batter in women’s ODI history.

The partnership between Mandhana and Rawal was a memorable one. Their 212-run stand for the first wicket is now the highest partnership for India at the Women’s World Cup. The previous best was 184 between Mandhana and Harmanpreet Kaur for the fourth wicket against the West Indies in 2022.

It is also the highest partnership against New Zealand in women’s ODIs. The record was earlier held by England’s Sarah Taylor and Lydia Greenway, who had a 201-run stand in 2012.

This was only the third instance in Women’s World Cup history where both openers scored centuries in the same innings. The previous pairs to achieve this were England’s Lynne Thomas and Enid Bakewell in 1973, and Australia’s Lindsay Reeler and Ruth Buckstein in 1988.

Mandhana’s fifth hundred in 2025 also puts her in elite company. She is now only the second woman to hit five ODI hundreds in a single calendar year after Tazmin Brits, who achieved the same milestone earlier in 2025.

Mandhana’s run tally for 2025 has now reached 1259, the highest ever by a player in women’s ODIs in a single year. Rawal follows her closely with 976 runs, making it a remarkable season for the Indian openers.

The two performers have registered seven hundred-run partnerships in one-day international games, which is equal to the Indian record of the same between Mithali Raj and Punam Raut. Five of them occurred in 2025, the most of any two in a year, and equaled Australia's Belinda Clark and Lisa Keightley.

Mandhana and Rawal also have four partnerships of 150 or more runs. Only two other pairs, Clark and Keightley, and New Zealand’s Suzie Bates and Amy Satterthwaite, share this record in women’s ODIs.

Two of Mandhana and Rawal’s four stands have crossed the 200-run mark. Only three other pairs have managed multiple 200-plus partnerships in women’s ODIs, but none from India.

It was truly a record-breaking day for India’s openers, as Smriti Mandhana and Pratika Rawal etched their names in the history books with a stunning display of batting dominance in Navi Mumbai.
