Litton Das Claims Mohammad Rizwan Refused Handshake
Bangladesh wicketkeeper batter Litton Das has accused Mohammad Rizwan of disrespecting the spirit of cricket. He said the Pakistan wicketkeeper batter refused to shake hands after the end of the last test due to heated arguments on the field.
The tension between the two players was evident during the second test in Sylhet when they had a tense moment in the middle of the match.
The drama unfolded in the 72nd over of Pakistan’s innings. Rizwan was unhappy with activity around the sightscreen and raised the issue, while Litton appeared frustrated by the interruption. The two exchanged words for a short period before umpire Richard Kettleborough intervened and brought the matter under control.
“I didn’t like one thing. Whatever happens on the field, once the game is over, you shake hands with everyone. After we won the first Test, Rizwan didn’t come shake our hands. That’s just bad, no matter who you are or how big a player you are. Win or lose, it’s about respect,” said Litton Das while speaking at a local event in Bangladesh.
The Bangladesh batter said that even if Rizwan had some personal disagreement with him, choosing not to be part of the customary post-match handshake was disrespectful to the whole Bangladesh team, not just him.
“He might have an issue with me, but the whole Bangladesh team didn’t do anything to him. What should we expect from him next time? He didn’t show respect to our team,” said Litton Das.
Das then revealed that targeting Mohammad Rizwan was a part of Bangladesh’s plan, as he is an important player for Pakistan who can win them matches.
“I knew only Babar and Rizwan could really trouble us. Rizwan’s record against Bangladesh is very strong, and that stayed in my mind," said Litton Das.
Bangladesh wicketkeeper-batter then spoke about the Sylhet incident, saying he decided to confront Rizwan because he was taking too much time between deliveries, which was slowing the game down and wasting time.
“He’s a big deal in Pakistan, but something happened that I didn’t like. Ever since, I had a question mark about him. Plus, everyone knows Rizwan takes his time between balls. I was keeping wickets in that heat, and it was tough. So I decided to do something about it,” concluded Litton Das.
