Karachi: The Lahore Qalandars finished their innings on a massive high at the National Stadium in Karachi. They posted a strong total of 210 for 4 against the Rawalpindiz.
The Qalandars got off to a flying start after winning the toss and choosing to bat. Opening batter Mohammad Farooq set the pace early on. He took advantage of the hard new ball. Farooq played with great clarity. He was finding the boundaries with ease and keeping the scoreboard moving during the powerplay. He reached a well-played half-century, eventually falling for 63 off 41 deliveries.
His dismissal came at the hands of Mohammad Amir, who managed to break the opening partnership just as it was becoming dangerous. The opening pair scored a 121-run opening partnership.
However, the fall of the first wicket did not slow Lahore down. Fakhar Zaman, known for his ability to accelerate, took over the lead role. Fakhar was in excellent touch and scored 84 from just 54 balls before falling to Mohammad Amir.
Abdullah Shafique joined Zaman in the latter stages and played a perfect supporting role. Shafique stayed calm under pressure, rotating the strike well and hitting boundaries when the bowlers missed their lengths. Together, they put on an unbeaten 70-run partnership for the 2nd wicket.
On the other hand, it was a difficult night for the Rawalpindiz bowlers. Captain Mohammad Rizwan tried several bowling changes, but found little to no help. The spinners found little help from the surface, and the pace bowlers were often forced onto the defensive by the aggressive intent of the Qalandars' top order.
Mohammad Amir ended with 2/25 and Razaullah with 2/45 in their 4 overs. No other bowler found any breakthrough, yet remained expensive.
With a target of 215 to chase, the Rawalpindiz face a steep mountain to climb. They will need a record-breaking performance from their batting lineup, particularly from Rizwan.
