KARACHI: Chasing a daunting 211-run mountain, Rawalpindiz’s response in the Powerplay was defined by a mix of intent and the inevitable jitters of a side nursing a six-match losing streak. Despite the scoreboard pressure, the openers managed to keep the chase breathing, reaching 62/2 after the first six overs.
RawalPindiz' innings began with a flurry of cautious aggression. Facing the pace of Shaheen Shah Afridi, the openers chose to use the pace rather than manufacture power. The first two overs yielded a steady 16 runs, providing the stable foundation Rawalpindiz desperately needed. However, the Shaheen Shah Afridi in the third over immediately altered the tempo. He got the wicket of Shahzaib Khan (7 off 5). In the same over, he got the 2nd wicket of Mohammad Rizwan (9 off 9).
Shaheen’s extra bounce consistently troubled the top order. In just 3 overs, RawalPindiz were at 17/2.
The incoming batter Yasir Khan launches a massive six over deep square to signal their refusal to surrender early. The final two overs of the Powerplay saw a tactical tug-of-war; while Lahore tightened their lines to dry up the boundaries, Rawalpindiz stayed busy with sharp running between the wickets.
While the required run rate has already crept toward 10 per over, Rawalpindiz has successfully avoided a top-order collapse. They exit the Powerplay needing 149 runs from 84 balls.
For Lahore Qalandars, the priority remains middle-over wickets to stifle this momentum, while Rawalpindiz must now find a way to convert this steady start into a match-winning onslaught.
