Lahore Qalandars Beat Peshawar Zalmi to Stay in PSL 2026 Playoffs Race

Lahore Qalandars defeated Peshawar Zalmi in the latest PSL clash, as Fakhar Zaman’s brilliant fifty led their strong response in the second innings. They chased down the target in the final over of the match, keeping their hopes to qualify for the PSL 2026 playoffs still alive.

Batting first, Peshawar Zalmi had a rough start, as they lost both James Vince and Kusal Mendis early in the Powerplay. This early setback forced Babar Azam to change gears and play with a defensive approach. He was well supported by Michael Bracewell at the other end, who produced a strong counterattack to get things back on track.

Due to the partnership between Babar Azam and Michael Bracewell, Peshawar Zalmi managed to negate the pressure of Lahore Qalandars. After playing a steady knock of 59 runs, Babar Azam then lost his wicket in the 16th over, courtesy of a ripper from Haris Rauf.

Meanwhile, Bracewell kept playing positively on the other end, knowing he had the momentum to score big in the final overs. He utilized this opportunity perfectly and scored 83 off just 45 balls, helping Peshawar to post 199 at the end of the first innings.

Coming out to chase the target, Lahore Qalandars started steadily and then raised their momentum towards the end of the Powerplay. Fakhar Zaman utilized all his experience to take the chase forward, as he got good support from Abdullah Shafique and Charith Asalanka during the middle overs.

Peshawar Zalmi also kept themselves in the game by taking regular wickets, however, Fakhar Zaman remained out of their reach. He played confidently with the middle order to increase the run rate after the 15 overs, making sure to utilize his batting momentum in scoring runs quickly.

Meanwhile, the cameos by Sikandar Raza and Daniel Sams also helped him towards the end, as Zalmi looked clueless in the final part of the innings. As a result, Lahore Qalandars sealed the chase in the last over, with Fakhar Zaman remaining not out on 58 runs. By winning the match, Lahore Qalandars secured fourth position on the PSL 2026 points table and kept their hopes of qualifying for the playoffs alive.
