Marnus Labuschagne says player confidence and clarity of roles will be central to his captaincy when he leads Hyderabad Kingsmen in the upcoming Pakistan Super League season. The Australian batter will captain the new franchise in PSL 11, which begins on March 26.
Speaking at a captains’ conference before the tournament, Labuschagne said his leadership approach would focus more on individuals rather than complex tactical planning. He indicated that he plans to follow the same leadership methods he uses with his domestic team in Australia.
“We haven’t spoken too much in depth. For us, it’s all about the individuals—the players themselves being themselves. I’m going to try and lead them in the same manner that I have for my state side back at home,” Labuschagne said.
He stressed the importance of backing players to perform with confidence and freedom, adding that belief within the squad is key to team performance.
“I think it’s about empowering the players to trust their skills and go out there to showcase how good they are,” he added.
PSL 11 will feature eight teams for the first time, with Hyderabad Kingsmen and the Rawalpindi franchise joining the competition. The tournament will run from March 26 to May 3, with 44 matches scheduled over 39 days.
The Pakistan Cricket Board has confirmed that matches will be played in Karachi and Lahore, with the playoffs scheduled across both venues. Lahore will host Eliminator 1, Eliminator 2 and the final, while Karachi will stage the Qualifier.
The opening match of the season will be played between Hyderabad Kingsmen and Lahore Qalandars.
