LAHORE – In the match 6 of PSL 11, Karachi Kings produced a dominant bowling display to restrict the Lahore Qalandars to a modest 128/9 at the Gaddafi Stadium.
Opting to bat first, Shaheen's decision didn't provide Lahore a better start. Qalandars’ openers, Fakhar Zaman and Muhammad Naeem, found the boundary-clearing difficult against a disciplined Karachi attack in the powerplay.
Shafique looked the most comfortable of the lot, top-scoring with a steady 33 off 24 deliveries, but his dismissal sparked a collapse that the Qalandars failed to recover from.
Karachi seamers utilized the early moisture effectively, with Mir Hamza once again proving why he is a domestic stalwart, finishing with remarkably economical figures of 2/14.
The turning point of the innings, however, came during the middle overs when Adam Zampa was introduced into the attack. The Australian international choked the scoring rate, conceding only 11 runs in his four-over quota while picking up two crucial wickets. His ability to extract bounce and subtle variations deceived the Qalandars' power-hitters.
Moeen Ali provided excellent support from the other end, claiming 2/31, ensuring that the pressure remained relentless. Even as Haseebullah Khan tried to counter-attack with a brief 28, the veteran Hasan Ali returned to clean up the tail, ensuring the Qalandars never reached the competitive 150-mark.
The Qalandars' total of 128/9 represents a significant challenge for their bowling department. While the Gaddafi Stadium pitch has shown signs of slowing down, defending such a low total against a Karachi batting lineup led by David Warner and the explosive Azam Khan will require a Herculean effort from Shaheen Shah Afridi and Haris Rauf.
As the sun sets over Lahore, the atmosphere remains electric despite the modest target.
With both teams desperate for points in this expanded eight-team format, the next 20 overs will dictate the momentum for the remainder of their PSL 11 campaigns.
