Jason Roy Joins Karachi Kings as Muhammad Waseem Departs for National Duty

KARACHI: Karachi Kings have brought in England opener Jason Roy for the remainder of PSL 11, with the 35-year-old joining the squad as a replacement for Muhammad Waseem.

The franchise confirmed the move on its official platforms, stating: “Welcoming England's destructive opener Jason Roy to the [Kings Squad]. He joins the squad as a replacement for Muhammad Waseem.” The change comes as Waseem, along with fellow UAE player Khuzaima Tanveer, has been released due to national team commitments.

Roy returns to familiar conditions, having previously featured in the Pakistan Super League with Lahore Qalandars and Quetta Gladiators. Across six seasons, he has played 38 matches and established himself as a consistent performer at the top of the order.

Experience Boost for Karachi Kings

The addition strengthens Karachi Kings’ batting unit ahead of the latter stages of PSL 11. Roy’s record in the competition includes 1260 runs at an average of 36.00 and a strike rate of 146.51. This fabulous record underlines his ability to score quickly in T20 conditions.

He also holds the record for the highest individual score in PSL history. In this match, he scored unbeaten 145 for Quetta Gladiators against Peshawar Zalmi during the 2023 season. That innings remains one of the standout performances in the league.

Karachi Kings, led by David Warner, will look to utilise Roy’s experience as they push for consistency in their campaign.
