Miller and Stubbs Power South Africa to 187/7 Following Bumrah’s Lethal Powerplay Strike

Miller and Stubbs Power South Africa to 187/7 Following Bumrah’s Lethal Powerplay Strike

In a Super Eight India vs South Africa match at the Narendra Modi Stadium, South Africa overcame a disastrous start to set India a target of 188 runs in the 2026 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup.

Early Struggles: Bumrah and Arshdeep Strike

Opting to bat first, South Africa immediately found themselves under the pump. Bumrah dismantled the top order early, removing Quinton de Kock (6) in the second over before Arshdeep Singh accounted for captain Aiden Markram (4).

When Bumrah returned to dismiss Ryan Rickelton for 7, the Proteas were reeling at 20/3, threatening a complete capitulation in front of a partisan Ahmedabad crowd.

Miller and "Baby AB" Partnership

David Miller and Dewald Brevis forged a vital 97-run partnership that stabilized the innings. Brevis, nicknamed "Baby AB," lived up to his reputation by hammering a trademark no-look six off Varun Chakaravarthy.

At the other end, Miller was clinical, reaching his half-century in just 26 balls, the fastest T20 World Cup fifty against India.

Mid-Innings Collapse and Stubbs’ Late Heroics

The partnership was finally broken in the 13th over when Shivam Dube dismissed Brevis for a well-made 45 off 29 balls. After it, Varun Chakaravarthy claimed the crucial wicket of Miller for 63 (35 balls), while Bumrah returned to clean up the tail, including the wicket of Corbin Bosch, to finish with 3/15.

With the innings stuttering at 167/7, Tristan Stubbs took charge. Stubbs remained unbeaten on 44 off 24 balls, striking three sixes to propel South Africa to a competitive total of 187/7.
