KARACHI: Chasing a mammoth 245-run target set by the Hyderabad Kingsmen, the Rawalpindiz find themselves in a precarious position, reaching the 10-over mark at 93/4.
Despite a spirited effort to maintain a high scoring rate, the Kingsmen’s disciplined bowling attack has consistently chipped away at the Pindiz's top order, leaving the chase hanging by a thread at the National Stadium.
The second innings began with immediate drama as Akif Javed struck in only the second over, dismissing Shahzaib Khan (1) caught at mid-off by Marnus Labuschagne. The early blow forced skipper Mohammad Rizwan and Usman Khawaja into an aggressive counter-attack.
The duo briefly ignited hope, racing to a 43-run partnership in just 22 balls. Rizwan looked particularly dangerous, dispatching boundaries at will before falling for 26 off 16 balls, caught by Shayan Jahangir off the bowling of Hunain Shah.
Hunain Shah’s impact was instantaneous; on the very next delivery, he clean-bowled Kamran Ghulam for a duck, leaving the Rawalpindiz reeling at 56/3 in the 6th over. The collapse continued shortly after the powerplay when the introduction of spin further stifled the run flow. By the end of the 10th over, the Pindiz had lost their fourth wicket, with the required run rate climbing steeply toward 16 runs per over.
Usman Khawaja remains the lone warrior for the Pindiz, batting on 45* off 26 balls, but he faces a monumental task with the recognized power-hitters thinning out. For the Kingsmen, Akif Javed has been the pick of the bowlers with figures of 3/38, while Hunain Shah (2/13) and Saim Ayub have maintained tight lines to keep the pressure on.
With 152 runs still required from the final 60 balls, the Kingsmen are firmly in the driver’s seat, while the Rawalpindiz need a miracle to keep their tournament hopes alive.
