Hyderabad Kingsmen have roped in the experienced Sri Lankan spinner, Maheesh Theekshana, for the upcoming PSL 2026 season. The franchise announced his arrival in the squad through a social media post, describing him as a ‘wily operator’ who will strengthen the team’s bowling ranks in the upcoming tournament.
“Bhali kare aya. The wily operator, Maheesh Theekshana, has joined the ranks of the Hyderabad Kingsmen.” said the caption of the Hyderabad Kingsmen’s social media post.
Maheesh Theekshana is a renowned Sri Lankan spinner having plenty of experience in T20 cricket. The 25-year-old has played 83 T20 internationals for Sri Lanka and taken 82 wickets, at an economy rate of 7.08.
Combining the performances of franchise cricket and T20 internationals, Theekshana has featured in 225 T20 matches, picking up 230 wickets at an economy of 7.07, including 4 four-wicket hauls.
Maheesh Theekshana has also played in several major T20 leagues around the world, including the ILT20, Indian Premier League (IPL), SA20, Caribbean Premier League (CPL), and Lanka Premier League (LPL).
The PSL 2026 season will take place from 26 March to 3 May, with eight teams taking part in the league for the first time. Two new franchises, Hyderabad Kingsmen and Rawalpindiz, have been added, and a total of 44 matches will be played over 39 days.
Meanwhile, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has made some changes to the original schedule. The board said that all matches will now be held only in Karachi and Lahore due to cost-cutting measures. Earlier, six cities, including Multan, Peshawar, Rawalpindi and Faisalabad, were expected to host games, but those plans have now been dropped.
PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi shared the updated plans during a media conference. He said the decisions were made after a meeting with franchise owners and discussions with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, who is the Patron-in-Chief of the board.
