LAHORE: Hyderabad Kingsmen secured a spot in the final after defeating Islamabad United by two runs in a thrilling Eliminator 2. Defending a target of 187, the Kingsmen bowlers held their nerve during the final over at Gaddafi Stadium. Islamabad United finished their innings at 184/7 despite a late surge from their lower order.
Islamabad United started the chase with caution and reached 43/1 at the end of the powerplay. Devon Conway anchored the innings with a steady 30 runs from 25 balls. He shared a crucial partnership with Shadab Khan to keep the chase on track. Shadab contributed 22 runs before falling to a sharp catch at long-on.
The Kingsmen spinners tightened the scoring rate during the middle overs. Akif Javed and Mohammad Ali bowled disciplined spells to frustrate the United batsmen. Sameer Minhas and Mohsin Riaz fell cheaply while trying to increase the scoring rate. The required run rate climbed above twelve runs per over by the fifteenth over. United lost key wickets at regular intervals, which hampered their momentum.
The Hyderabad fielders remained sharp and saved several certain boundaries in the deep.
Islamabad United needed 6 runs from the final six balls to win the match. Chris Green and Faheem Ashraf were at the crease for the United side. Hunain Shah was tasked with bowling the definitive over for the Kingsmen. He started with two accurate yorkers that yielded only two runs. The fourth ball was a well-directed slower delivery that resulted in a single. Islamabad needed 4 runs from the final delivery.
Hunain delivered a perfect wide yorker that Green could only slice toward point. The batsmen completed two runs but fell short of the target by a narrow margin. Hyderabad Kingsmen celebrated as the scoreboard confirmed their two-run victory.
The Kingsmen will now face Peshawar Zalmi in the PSL 11 final on Sunday. Islamabad United will regret the slow scoring during their middle-over period. This victory marks the first time Hyderabad has reached a PSL final in their history.
