Brook Looks To Retain Top Ranking in T20Is After Sweeping Aside Sri Lanka 3-0

Harry Brook has urged England to work hard to stay at the top of the T20I rankings after beating Sri Lanka in the final match of the series.

England’s eight-wicket win at Emirates Old Trafford completed a 3-0 series sweep and pushed them above India in the ICC rankings. They had also reached the top earlier in the summer after a 4-0 win over India, but India returned to No.1 a few weeks later following their victory over Zimbabwe.

England’s rise started after Brook took over as their limited-overs captain at the beginning of last summer. They were third in the rankings at that point, but have since won 23 of their last 26 completed matches. They have also won seven games in a row, helping them move back to the top for the second time in two months.

"I think we should be extremely proud to win another series, another whitewash series and go back to world number one is an extremely good effort. Everybody in that changing room should be really proud of themselves.” said England captain Harry Brook.

Brook then applauded the effort of the whole team, saying everyone is taking responsibility in the field, which is why England has produced strong results recently.

"I think everything's running so smoothly, especially in the field. Lads are taking it upon themselves to make sure they're in the right spots and we're really nailing down and buying into everything that we're talking about in the outfield. Especially we're putting 100% in, which is all that we can ever ask for." said Harry Brook.

Brook is now keen to make the most of his time as captain and keep England’s good run in T20Is going. He believes the team should keep playing with the same intensity and take pride in being the No.1 side to stay motivated.

"We obviously knew that we had the opportunity to go number one before the series if we had a beaten them 3-0. So that was always in the back of our minds.” said Harry Brook.

"We've got to stay motivated to try and keep that spot for as long as possible. We probably don't play as much T20 as other nations, especially India who play a hell of a lot of T20s. So keeping that might not be as easy as it sounds, but every opportunity we get, we're going to try and dominate in opposition." added Harry Brook.
