Hardik Pandya Praises Tilak Varma After Match-Winning Century in IPL 2026

Hardik Pandya Praises Tilak Varma After Match-Winning Century in IPL 2026

Mumbai Indians captain Hardik Pandya praised Tilak Varma after his unbeaten 101 off 45 balls against Gujarat Titans, which helped MI post 200 and end their four-match losing streak in IPL 2026.

"The kind of talent that Tilak has, he really does not need to worry about a lot," Hardik said.

"It was about time that he came and delivered… it was much needed for the group, for Tilak, and for Mumbai Indians."

Tilak Varma Leads MI Comeback

Tilak’s knock came at a crucial moment, lifting Mumbai Indians from a difficult position and helping them add 73 runs in the final four overs. His innings included eight fours and seven sixes, marking his first IPL century and one of the standout moments in IPL 2026 highlights.

Hardik himself contributed with the bat, building an 81-run partnership with Tilak before later making an impact with the ball.

Bumrah’s New Role Pays Off

Another major talking point was Jasprit Bumrah opening the bowling, a rare move in his IPL career. The decision paid off immediately as he picked up a wicket with the first ball.

"It's quite fascinating," Hardik said, "I've seen a lot of people why Jassi has never bowled but if you see it's his 138th appearance and I think eight or nine times [seven in 151] Jassi has bowled first over. So, I don't think it's a Hardik Pandya problem. It's just that Jasprit Bumrah is so special that you use him whenever he's required for the team. Not when you start. But today we realised that we really want to make an impact with the new ball and no one's better than him."

A Much-Needed Win for Mumbai Indians

Coming into the match with a poor record in Ahmedabad, Mumbai Indians managed to turn things around with a commanding 99-run victory. The timing of the win made it even more significant for the team’s campaign.

"It's always challenging to go away and win. But at the same point of time, [playing in] Ahmedabad has been something very tough for us as Mumbai Indians. We just played good cricket and it feels very special because it was much needed."

Conclusion

This performance could mark a turning point for Mumbai Indians in IPL 2026. With Tilak Varma stepping up and key decisions working in their favor, the team now looks ready to build momentum. This Hardik Pandya statement on Tilak Varma reflects both confidence and belief as MI aim to climb up the table.
