Hansi Flick has signed a new contract with Barcelona that will keep him at the club until June 2028, with an option to extend for another year, the club confirmed on Monday.
His earlier deal was set to run out in June 2027, however, the new extension has made him the club boss until 2028.
Barcelona secured the LaLiga title after a 2-0 win over rivals Real Madrid at Camp Nou recently. By doing so, they sealed their 29th league crown with three matches still left.
Hansi Flick, who guided Bayern Munich to a treble earlier in his career, arrived at Barcelona in 2024 on a short-term contract. He joined the club after being sacked from his role with Germany in September 2023, aiming to rebuild his reputation in club football.
With Flick in charge, Barcelona returned to the top of Spanish football, picking up LaLiga titles in consecutive seasons, as well as the 2024–25 Copa del Rey and back-to-back Spanish Super Cups.
After winning the league, Hansi Flick said on Tuesday that he is ready to extend his stay by one year, with the option of another year added on.
"I'll let you know, sorry, the last few days I’ve had different things to do," said Barcelona manager Hansi Flick.
"Of course, I'm really happy about this (contract extension). They have given me and my team the confidence to work one or two years more, so for me it's like that.” added Hansi Flick.
Flick then said that many coaches like to have long-term contracts, but in Barcelona’s case, he is happy to move forward with a limited extension.
"I think a lot of coaches would be happy if they get a contract of three, four or five years, but in Barca's case it's good to limit it. I really appreciate it a lot.” said Hansi Flick.
Flick then revealed that his contract can be extended to one more year if all plans work well by the time the team moves into 2028.
"We go to 2028 and then we'll see if everything is right, and if so, we can decide on one more year. The club has the right, and I have the right, I think it's a good deal," said Hansi Flick.
