Cameron Green Statement Century Powers Western Australia to Command Against New South Wales

PERTH: An unbeaten Cameron Green century lifted Western Australia cricket team into a strong position in a Western Aus vs NSW clash after the second day of their Sheffield Shield clash. Western Australia finished the day on 302 for 7, establishing a 70-run lead after New South Wales were dismissed for 232 in their first innings.

Green remained unbeaten on 130 and anchored the innings after Western Australia lost early wickets. The allrounder arrived at the crease with his side under pressure and initially took time to settle before gradually taking control of the scoring.

Bancroft support and Hatcher’s breakthroughs

Opener Cameron Bancroft provided important support with 57 as he shared a 109-run partnership with Green. The stand stabilised the innings and shifted momentum back towards Western Australia after their early setbacks.

For New South Wales, seamer Liam Hatcher was the most effective bowler. He finished with figures of 4 for 53, removing several middle-order batters and keeping his side within reach during the afternoon session.

Green responds after difficult Ashes

The century came at an important moment for Green, who endured a difficult run during the recent Ashes series. The 26-year-old did not pass fifty in eight innings during the contest and questions had begun to emerge around his role in the national Test side.

His innings on Sunday was built patiently. Green required 21 deliveries to score his first run but later accelerated, striking several sixes off the bowling of Ryan Hadley, Charlie Stobo and spinner Joel Davies.

Green eventually reached his hundred from 167 balls, bringing up the milestone with a single off Davies. It was his first red-ball century of the Australian summer and a timely contribution as Western Australia pushed towards a first-innings advantage.

The allrounder’s most recent century had come in an ODI against South Africa national cricket team in August, while his previous red-ball hundred was scored for Gloucestershire County Cricket Club in county cricket last year.

With Green still at the crease and wickets in hand, Western Australia will look to extend their lead further when play resumes.
