The rising Australian all-rounder, Cameron Green, created history in the record books of IPL on Tuesday night. He became the most expensive overseas player in the history of IPL, after Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) bought him for a whopping price of INR 25.20 crore. With this tag, he surpassed Mitchell Starc, who was the most expensive overseas buy in the IPL last year.
In Tuesday’s IPL auction, Cameron Green became the central point of conflict between Kolkata Knight Riders and Chennai Super Kings (CSK). The two franchises engaged in a tense bidding war to secure the services of Green, as his current form in international cricket has impressed everyone.
After intense back-and-forth bidding, Kolkata Knight Riders ultimately won the contest by signing Cameron Green for INR 25.20 crore. With this price tag, Green has now become the third most expensive player in overall IPL history, just behind Indian internationals Rishabh Pant and Shreyas Iyer on the list.
Speaking about the signing of Cameron Green, the KKR CEO Venky Mysore said that the management is very happy to secure Green for the upcoming IPL edition. They have full confidence on Green’s abilities, which is why they have bought him at a huge price tag.
"He adds lot to our team, especially with our new power coach Andre Russell, very nice to have a young allrounder. Him having had IPL experience, we know what he does with bat and ball. Couldn't be happier." said Kolkata Knight Riders CEO, Venky Mysore.
Besides Cameron Green, several other Australian players also fetched big money in Tuesday’s IPL auction, including Josh Inglis, Ben Dwarshuis, Cooper Connolly, and others. It will be interesting to see how these players perform in the upcoming IPL edition, as the level of competition in the league has risen significantly over the past few years.
