David Warner in Trouble as NSW Police Charge Him With Drink-Driving in Sydney

David Warner has landed himself in serious trouble, as he has been charged with drink driving by NSW Police in Sydney. As per the recent reports, Warner was found to be over twice the legal driving limit when police stopped him for a random test. He was later arrested and taken to Maroubra Police Station, sparking a fresh controversy during the ongoing PSL 2026 season.

David Warner was given a week’s break to travel back to Australia for personal reasons during a gap in Karachi Kings’ current PSL schedule. Their last match was on April 2, where he made a half-century in a win over RawalPindiz.

“About 5:30pm today (Sunday 5 April 2026), police were conducting stationary random breath testing on Malabar Road, Maroubra. A van was seen to allegedly stop short of the testing site and park. Officers attached to Traffic and Highway Patrol Command approached the vehicle and subjected the driver, a 39-year-old man, to roadside testing which returned a positive result.” said the NSW Police statement.

“He was arrested and taken to Maroubra Police Station where a second test allegedly returned a reading of 0.104. The man was issued with a Field Court Attendance Notice for drive with middle-range PCA [Prescribed Concentration of Alcohol] to appear before the Downing Centre Local Court on Thursday 7 May 2026.” added the statement.

The Kings’ next match is on April 9, and it is hoped that the arrest will not affect his plans to return to Pakistan on time. This will be the team’s first game at their home ground in Karachi, and they are the only side in the PSL this year with a perfect record, carrying three wins in three matches.

David Warner joined the PSL following an outstanding Big Bash League season, where he scored plenty of runs for Sydney Thunder and earned a spot as captain in the tournament’s official team.

To defend his case in the recent controversy, Warner is scheduled to appear in court on May 7 in Sydney. Since the PSL final takes place on May 3 in Lahore, this will hopefully not impact his participation in the rest of the tournament.
