Italy’s Matteo Berrettini recorded a straight-sets win over Daniil Medvedev at the Monte Carlo Masters. The result was 6-0, 6-0 in under an hour. The match marked the first time Medvedev has lost a tour-level contest without claiming a single game.
Berrettini, competing as a wildcard, maintained control throughout the match and limited errors to a minimum. The Italian converted his chances efficiently and did not allow Medvedev to settle, particularly on serve, where the Russian struggled to hold.
“I think it was one of the best performances of my life,” Berrettini said.
“I think I missed three shots in the entire match and it is not easy against a tricky player like Daniil. I think the game plan was perfect and my weapons were working.”
Medvedev showed visible signs of frustration during the match. After falling behind, he struck his racket repeatedly against the court and advertising boards, eventually breaking it. The outburst came as he committed a high number of unforced errors and was unable to recover momentum.
The result also stands out for Berrettini, who registered his first 6-0, 6-0 win at tour level. It also marked his first victory over a top-10 opponent since defeating Alexander Zverev at the same event last year.
The incident adds to recent discussions around player conduct on court. Aryna Sabalenka recently suggested the idea of designated “rage rooms” where players could release frustration away from public view. Her comments followed an earlier incident involving Coco Gauff during the Australian Open.
The conversation around emotional control and on-court behaviour continues to be a topic of attention across the tour.
