Cameron Green played aggressively in the second test at Brisbane to take down the England bowlers. Inspired by the approach of Travis Head, Cameron Green tried to hit quick boundaries to speed up the scoring rate of Australia. Unfortunately, he couldn’t score big, as Brydon Carse removed him in the first innings for 45 runs.
The middle-order batter is now confident to take the same approach in the Adelaide test as well. He acknowledged that aggressive batting can be risky, but he is looking forward to pursuing it with full confidence.
In the first innings, Brydon Carse bowled multiple bouncers to Green at high pace. The Australian batter answered the challenge by hitting Carse aggressively, showing he was up for the challenge. However, the English pacer had the last laugh when Green attempted to step out of the crease to hit Carse over the mid-off fielder.
"It looks quite bad when you get out. You walk off a little bit embarrassed. But I think they're really great learnings for future games.” said Cameron Green while talking to the reporters.
He said the intent behind taking on the England bowlers at that particular time was to gain an advantage in the game. It worked well for the team; however, he eventually lost his wicket due to a slight lapse in patience.
"I think we were 30 or 40 runs behind, was the extra runs pretty crucial at night? Maybe, maybe not. All those things that you kind of weigh up during an innings to work out what the best thing is for the team.” said Cameron Green.
He then admitted that aggressive batting plans do not always work. As a batter, he fully understands this, which is why he also has alternative strategies to handle different situations in the match.
"It's a really good plan on [Carse's] end. I think the way that we were going, that's the best way that I saw it. It's always not going to pay off. There'll be different ways I go about it, depending on how the game situation." said Cameron Green.
Talking about his recent performances, Cameron Green said that his ability to bat in different situations has improved significantly. Due to that, he considers himself more skilled and experienced now than he was in the past.
"I feel like I'm a better batter than I was a few years ago, and hopefully I'm a better batter in the future, than now," said Cameron Green.
He then elaborated his improved set of skills, defining how he can play different shots to upset the plans of the opposition. The batter expressed confidence in his abilities, saying they are more developed and refined than they were a few years ago.
"I feel like I've just got more ways to go about it. I think when you when you first start, you've probably got a cover drive and a pull shot. Where now you got to walk down the wicket, you've got a bit more confidence to back away, play certain shots that you find that are appropriate for that situation.” said Cameron Green.
“I think that's the beauty of being in a team of really experienced guys around me that I'm watching them, how they go about it in certain situations, and then trying to build that into my game." added Cameron Green.
The middle-order batter is also not worried about whether he scores a century in this series. He believes that overthinking such things can distract a player from the main goal, so he hasn’t been focusing on that lately.
"I think if you're really too focused on a certain outcome, I think you just push it further away. So I'm sure will happen at some time." concluded Cameron Green.
