KKR Facing Selection Headache as Cameron Green Back Injury Halts Bowling Duties

KKR Facing Selection Headache as Cameron Green Back Injury Halts Bowling Duties

Cricket Australia (CA) has confirmed that all-rounder Cameron Green will not bowl in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 while playing for Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). The 26-year-old, who was signed by KKR for INR 25.2 crores, is managing a lower-back injury that has limited his bowling workload.

A CA spokesperson said, "Cameron has a lower-back injury, which is being managed, but requires him to abstain from bowling for a short period. Cameron is currently rebuilding his bowling loads in India with a view to return in around 10-12 days' time. KKR has been communicated with and is fully aware of this information."

The announcement follows questions about Green’s absence from the bowling attack in KKR’s six-wicket loss to Mumbai Indians on Sunday. KKR captain Ajinkya Rahane had initially deflected queries, saying, "ask Cricket Australia," but expressed optimism about Green returning to the attack. "I think when hopefully Green starts to bowl soon, the combination will be slightly different," Rahane said. He added that batting has been strong but the team is seeking balance with the ball.

Green has not bowled since the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2026, concluding earlier this month, due to the same back issue. Prior to the tournament, he had been sidelined from bowling for over a year, from September 2024 to October 2025, after undergoing surgery for a stress fracture.

KKR are now adjusting their bowling lineup while monitoring Green’s recovery. The team management remains hopeful that the all-rounder will resume full bowling duties in the coming weeks, which could strengthen the side’s overall combination.
