Ben Curran Century Powers Zimbabwe Defeat Ban in 2nd ODI
HARARE: Zimbabwe secured a historic, unassailable 2-0 ODI series victory over Bangladesh on Thursday, holding their nerve to clinch a thrilling 13-run win at the Harare Sports Club. The undisputed hero of the day was opening batsman Ben Curran, who anchored the Zimbabwean innings with a masterful, unbeaten 111 off 135 deliveries.
Coming into the side under immense pressure, Curran anchored the top order with pristine composure before exploding late in the innings. Alongside an aggressive Brad Evans, who smashed a vital 58 not out, Curran catapulted Zimbabwe to a competitive total of 247 for 6 in their allotted 50 overs.
In reply, Bangladesh looked heavily primed to chase down the target, spearheaded by steady half-centuries from Tawhid Hridoy (60) and opening batsman Tanzid Hasan (57). At various intervals, the visitors looked in complete control of the required run rate. However, Zimbabwe's disciplined bowling unit refused to buckle.
The turning point arrived when left-arm seamer Richard Ngarava produced a devastating spell of death bowling. Ngarava extracted sharp bounce and crucial movement from the Harare surface, tearing through the Bangladesh middle and lower order to finish with clinical figures of 3 for 55.
Triggering a catastrophic batting collapse, the visitors lost their final five wickets for a mere handful of runs, ultimately being bowled out for 234 in 48.1 overs. The dramatic 13-run victory marks a monumental milestone for Zimbabwe, who have now dominated this multi-format home series following their comprehensive innings victory in the standalone Test match and a 25-run win in the 1st ODI.
With the series format mathematically sealed, Zimbabwe will look to complete a famous whitewash in the third and final ODI on July 11, while a demoralized Bangladesh seeks answers before the upcoming T20I leg.
