Ben Curran Century & Evans Blitz Rescue Chevrons After Top Order Collapse

HARARE: Zimbabwe put on a stunning show of resilience in 2nd ODI against Bangladesh at the Harare Sports Club.Seeking to wrap up the three-match ODI leg of the Bangladesh tour of Zimbabwe 2026 with a game to spare, Zimbabwe weathered an early storm from the Bangladeshi pacers.

They recovered from a precarious top-order collapse to post a competitive 247 for 6 in their allotted 50 overs.

Curran Anchors the Innings

After being put into bat by Bangladesh's stand-in skipper Mehidy Hasan Miraz, Zimbabwe endured a disastrous start under overcast conditions. Opening batter Brian Bennett fell for a duck in the very first over. He was quickly followed back to the pavilion by Innocent Kaia (4) and veteran Craig Ervine (9). This left the home team in deep trouble at 32 for 3 within the initial Powerplay.

However, opening batter Ben Curran proved to be the anchor the Chevrons desperately needed. Curran held one end firmly, securing a monumental, unbeaten century (111* off 135 deliveries). His gritty knock was punctuated by stabilizing partnerships, first with Wessly Madhevere (15) and later alongside the experienced Sikandar Raza (33).

Evans Launches Late Onslaught

When Raza departed to leave Zimbabwe at 134 for 5, the tourists looked primed to restrict the hosts to a sub-200 total. Yet, bowling all-rounder Brad Evans turned the tide dramatically in the death overs. Evans provided the late-innings fireworks with a blistering, unbeaten half-century (58* off just 38 balls). His counter-attacking cameo added an essential late flourish, leaving Bangladesh to chase a target of 248 runs for victory.

Paceman Taskin Ahmed and captain Mehidy Hasan Miraz picked two wickets apiece.
