Tanzid and Saif Fifties Before Saifuddin Blitz Powers Bangladesh to Score 186 in 2nd T20I

BULAWAYO: Half-centuries from Tanzid Hasan and Saif Hassan, capped off by an explosive late-overs blitz, powered Bangladesh to a competitive 186 for 5 in Zim vs Ban 2nd T20I at the Queens Sports Club. 

Desperate to level the three-match series after a 32-run defeat in the opener, the visitors produced a significantly upgraded batting display after being asked to bat first. The bedrock of the Bangladeshi innings was an assertive 120-run opening stand between Tanzid and Saif. 

Learning from their previous failures against the hosts' bounce, both openers applied a blend of caution and aggression early on in powerplay. Tanzid Hasan was particularly severe on anything short, smashing 6 boundaries and 2 sixes in his 44-ball 58. On the other end, Saif Hassan anchored the partnership with precision, hitting 8 fours and a six to register 55 runs off 45 deliveries. 

At 120 for no loss in the 15th over, Bangladesh looked primed for a mammoth total before Zimbabwe’s experienced bowling unit struck back. Captain Sikandar Raza provided the much-needed breakthrough for the hosts, breaking the dangerous partnership by cleaning up Saif Hassan for 55. The wicket triggered a mini-collapse as Zimbabwe's premier fast bowler, Richard Ngarava, quickly removed the well-set Tanzid Hasan for 58 just four balls later. 

Ngarava's exceptional variations into the pitch dried up the scoring options, forcing under-pressure skipper Towhid Hridoy and the middle-order to miscue their strokes. Ngarava finished as the standout bowler for Zimbabwe, showing remarkable discipline to finish with figures of 2 for 23 in his 4 overs. 

While the Zimbabwean fielders backed up their bowlers with relentless energy, medium-pacer Brad Evans had a forgettable outing at the death. Despite snapping up two wickets late in the innings, Evans leaked a massive 65 runs from his 4 overs, primarily due to a brutal assault in the final over. The momentum shifted entirely back to the Tigers during the death overs, courtesy of a spectacular cameo from Mohammad Saifuddin. 

Coming in lower down the order, Saifuddin completely dismantled the bowling, hammering an unbeaten 31 runs off just 10 balls at a blistering strike rate of 310. His late fireworks ensured Bangladesh plundered 46 runs from the final five overs, pushing their total well past the par score on a surface keeping relatively low.

With a target of 187 required to seal a historic bilateral T20I series victory on home soil, Zimbabwe's top-order faces a steep task against a reinforced Bangladeshi bowling attack.
