Rishad Hossain Powers Bangladesh to Series Leveling Victory Over Zimbabwe

BULAWAYO: A masterclass in leg-spin bowling from Rishad Hossain and an explosive opening partnership powered Bangladesh to a series-levelling 34-run victory over Zimbabwe in the 2nd T20I at the Queens Sports Club.

The Tigers bounced back in emphatic fashion following their defeat in the opening fixture, successfully defending a formidable total of 186 to set up a winner-takes-all series decider on Sunday.

Defending 186, Bangladesh’s bowling unit execution was precise, bundled out the hosts for 152 in 19.4 overs. Leg-spinner Rishad Hossain was the chief destroyer for the visitors, ripping through Zimbabwe's middle order to register brilliant match-winning figures of 4 for 26. He received stellar support from off-spinner Mahedi Hasan, who choked the scoring rates and chipped in with crucial wickets to finish with 3 for 24.

Zimbabwe's chase never truly found its rhythm since powerplay. Aside from Ryan Burl, who top-scored for the hosts with an aggressive 29, the Zimbabwean batting lineup struggled to forge meaningful partnerships against a disciplined and varied Bangladeshi bowling assault.

Earlier in the day, Zimbabwe won the toss and elected to field, a decision they quickly came to regret. Bangladesh's opening duo of Tanzid Hasan and Saif Hassan dismantled the home team's bowling attack from the outset. The pair stitched together a blazing 119-run opening partnership, completely dictating the tempo of the powerplay and setting a rock-solid foundation for a mammoth score.

Tanzid Hasan paced the innings beautifully, anchoring the side with a classy 58 off 44 deliveries. At the other end, Saif Hassan matched his partner’s aggression, striking a crucial 55 off 45 balls. Zimbabwean right-arm pacer Brad Evans endured a difficult day at the office despite picking up two wickets, leaking a costly 65 runs in his designated four overs as the visitors targeted him relentlessly. 

Bangladesh ultimately concluded their 20 overs at a commanding 186 for 5. The left-arm fast bowler, Richard Ngarava, put on a spectacular exhibition of death bowling and control amid the carnage, finishing with remarkable figures that restricted Bangladesh from crossing the 200-run threshold.

With the three-match series now locked at 1-1, the stage is set for a thrilling finale at the Queens Sports Club on July 19, where both teams will battle for the silverware.
