Peshawar Zalmi Bring in Azhar Ali as Fielding Coach for PSL 11

Peshawar Zalmi Bring in Azhar Ali as Fielding Coach for PSL 11

Peshawar Zalmi have officially confirmed the appointment of Azhar Ali as their Peshawar Zalmi fielding coach for the ongoing Pakistan Super League 11 season via their social media platforms. The announcement came shortly after the tournament’s opening match and just days before Zalmi’s first game of the season.

“We are pleased to welcome Azhar Ali, former Pakistan captain, as our fielding coach for PSL 11,” the post read.

“Armed with a compact technique and immense patience, Azhar Ali brings a composed and disciplined approach, along with vast international experience that will strengthen our fielding unit and elevate our intensity on the field. We are delighted to have you join the Zalmi family as we continue to raise the bar,” the caption added.

Zalmi Set to Face RawalPindiz in Opening Match

Zalmi will kick off their PSL 11 journey against debutants RawalPindiz on Saturday at the Gaddafi Stadium. The match marks an important start for the former champions as they look to make an early impact in the tournament.

Azhar Ali’s PSL Background

Despite his vast international experience, Azhar Ali’s involvement in the PSL as a player has been limited. He featured only in the inaugural edition of the league, representing Lahore Qalandars, where he also led the side.

During that season, the opening batter played seven matches and scored 183 runs at a strike rate of 106.39, including one half-century. His experience is now expected to translate into improving Zalmi’s fielding standards.

PSL 11 Brings New Format and Teams

The ongoing season has introduced a major change, with the league expanding to eight teams. New franchises Hyderabad Kingsmen and RawalPindiz have joined the competition, taking the total number of matches to 44 across 39 days.

However, the tournament structure has been adjusted, with matches being held only in Karachi and Lahore and conducted behind closed doors. The revised plan was announced by Pakistan Cricket Board Chairman Mohsin Naqvi after discussions with franchise owners and consultation with Shehbaz Sharif.
