Jonathan David Scripts History as Atletico Madrid Crush Osasuna 4-0 in La Liga 2026
Atletico Madrid put in a strong display at the Riyadh Air Metropolitano, beating Osasuna 4-0 in a one-sided La Liga contest. Diego Simeone’s side took control of the game early and never allowed the visitors to build any real momentum, making it a comfortable night for the Madrid club.
The first goal arrived in the 24th minute when Jonathan David found the net to put Atletico in front. They carried that advantage into the break before Lee Kang-in added a second nine minutes after half-time.
Atletico continued to push forward and found two more goals in the final stages. Robin Le Normand scored in the 63rd minute, while Alex Baena completed the scoring 19 minutes later. The defeat left Osasuna with seven points from six games, placing them 13th in the table.
Jonathan David was at the centre of Atletico Madrid’s performance, making history with his goal before half-time. The forward became the first Atletico player in the 21st century to score in each of his first two La Liga appearances for the club.
David had an impact beyond his own goal as well. He provided the assist for Lee Kang-in’s second-half strike, giving Atletico more control of the game and playing a major part in their big win.
Notably, Atletico Madrid managed the win without Julian Alvarez, who was not included in the squad for the match. The Argentine forward is still dealing with a muscle problem and remains on the sidelines.
Simeone had already spoken about Alvarez’s fitness before the game, but his absence did not cause major problems for Atletico. The team had enough options in attack to make up for the striker’s absence.
The result moved Atletico Madrid up to 13 points from their first six league games. They remain third in the standings and are now within two points of both Real Madrid and table-toppers Barcelona.
