Multan Sultans have taken a bold step before the new season, naming Australia’s Ashton Turner as the Multan Sultans captain for PSL 11.
The franchise announced the decision on social media, bringing Mohammad Rizwan’s long run as captain to an end. Rizwan, who led the side for several seasons, has now joined the new franchise Pindiz.
Turner steps into the role with plenty of franchise cricket experience. The right-handed middle-order batter has played in major leagues around the world, including the Big Bash League, The Hundred, the IPL, SA20, and the Caribbean Premier League. He will now lead Multan Sultans in PSL 11.
The 33 year old is not new to the Multan setup either. He appeared for the Sultans last season, though only briefly, playing three matches.
His numbers in the T20 format still carry weight. Across 252 games he has piled up 4,103 runs at a lively strike rate above 142 and chipped in with 38 wickets as well.
Turner has played 19 T20Is for Australia. While the number is small, teammates value his calm approach in pressure moments, which likely influenced the franchise’s decision to hand him the captaincy.
Rizwan, however, leaves behind a strong record. Under his leadership, the Sultans played 58 matches and won 33. The biggest moment came in 2021 when the team won its first PSL title after beating Peshawar Zalmi in the final.
Turner now inherits that competitive culture. The squad assembled for PSL 11 blends overseas experience with local talent. Players such as Steve Smith, Josh Phillippe, Tabraiz Shamsi and Peter Siddle add international depth. Domestic names including Shan Masood, Mohammad Nawaz and Sahibzada Farhan bring familiarity with local conditions.
Now the focus shifts to the tournament opener later this month. If Turner settles quickly, PSL 11 could start with an interesting turn.
