As the countdown to the high-voltage India vs Pakistan clash in the Asia Cup 2025 continues, former Pakistan captain Shahid Afridi has stirred up a fresh storm. The ex-allrounder revisited the long-standing World Championship of Legends (WCL) dispute, once again taking aim at a few retired Indian cricketers.

Speaking on a television show in Pakistan, Afridi claimed that India’s withdrawal from matches against his team in the WCL had let down fans. He said, “I have always said that cricket should go on; it has always helped in making the relations better between the two countries. In England, people had bought tickets to see the WCL match, and the players had practised. Then you didn’t play. What was the thinking? I just can’t understand.”

Afridi also doubled down on his earlier “rotten egg” remark, which he had directed at an unnamed Indian player. Without mentioning names, he alleged that the cricketer had been permitted by his then captain, Yuvraj Singh, to skip games against Pakistan, provided he stayed silent on social media. Shahid Afridi suggested the player had “other motives” and insisted that was the reason he used such harsh words.

In another indirect swipe, Afridi accused some former Indian stars of “still trying to prove their Indian identity,” adding more fuel to an already heated atmosphere before 14th September’s big game.
