One of the all-time great all-rounders, Shahid Afridi has been named to captain the Pakistan Champions team in the 2025 World Championship of Legends (WCL) which will be held in the United Kingdom of Britain (the UK) between 18 July and 2 August plans in among the most well-known venues in the country; the Edgbaston, Headingley, Kia Oval, and Trent Bridge grounds.

The Pakistan Champions team has a flavour of the fierce power and tactical skills to team leaders like Shoaib Malik, Sarfraz Ahmed, Wahab Riaz, Sharjeel Khan, Asif Ali, Kamran Akmal, Sohail Tanvir, Aamer Yamin, Sohail Khan, and others.

Afridi, affectionately known as “Boom Boom,” emphasised the team’s intent and hunger for success ahead of the tournament, when talking to the : “With the legends of the game coming together, each match will be a spectacle of skill and strategy. We are excited to bring our A‑game and make our mark in the WCL.” 

His leadership is expected to inspire a strong showing from the Pakistan Champions, marking his return to a major captaincy position after years of high-profile international leadership roles.

  • Domain power batting lineup: Afridi, Malik, Akmal, Asif, Sharjeel — famous for their hitting ability.
  • Pace and spin tank: Riaz has chief a seam power; Afridi’s leg spinning and Tanvir’s deviant left arm course a range of selection.
  • Leadership stability: With Sarfraz Ahmed, the former captains experienced behind the stumps, the leadership has priority.

The Pakistan Champions will face the England Champions in the tournament opener on 18 July at Edgbaston, followed by a blockbuster India vs Pakistan clash on 20 July, also at Edgbaston. They will continue with group matches against other legend-packed squads such as South Africa, West Indies, and Australia. The season culminates with semi-finals on 31 July and the final on 2 August.

Being one of the most famous teams of the second edition of the WCL, Pakistan Champions generate a lot of attention among the fans willing to taste the nostalgic rivalries and influential powerplays. The charismatic leadership of Afridi is likely to fill the team with flair, color, and determination, and the matches will become unmissable.
