Ibrahim, Rashid Power Afghanistan to T20I Series Triumph Against Zimbabwe

Afghanistan thumped Zimbabwe by 7 wickets in the 2nd T20I at Harare. With this victory, they clinched the series with an unassailable lead of 2-0, marking yet another successful tour of Zimbabwe. The home team once again delivered a disappointing performance with the bat, as Afghanistan’s bowlers dominated them throughout the innings.

The series defeat against Afghanistan is a big setback to Zimbabwe, because they were playing the matches on their home turf. They should have taken advantage of the home conditions, as players like Sikandar Raza and Brendan Taylor are vastly experienced in playing international matches there.

Batting first, the home team displayed similar struggles with the bat, which were evident in the first match as well. They lost quick wickets in the Powerplay, which brought immense pressure on the middle order. Brian Bennett got out after making 16 runs, whereas Dion Myers also fell cheaply for just 6 runs.

The captain, Sikandar Raza, tried to steady the innings by playing sensibly. He built a decent partnership with Tony Munyonga during the middle overs, however, it wasn’t enough to handle the pressure of Afghan bowlers. The duo were going along nicely until Mohammad Nabi removed Munyonga for just 19 runs. This was a vital wicket for Afghanistan, as Munyonga was the last specialist batter partnering Raza in the middle.

After that dismissal, things became difficult for Zimbabwe. They failed to lift the scoring rate while Afghanistan kept on increasing pressure by bowling tight overs. This eventually brought pressure on Raza, and he lost his wicket in the 17th over while trying to hit Rashid Khan for a big shot. Soon after that, the entire Zimbabwe innings folded quickly for just 125 runs. This poor batting performance once again disappointed the fans, as they were certain that Afghanistan would easily chase down the low total in the second innings.

When Afghanistan came out to bat, they showcased discipline and class in their game plan. Their in-form player, Ibrahim Zadran, once again starred with the bat. He played with confidence in the second innings, making the chase of the target quite easy and smooth for Afghanistan. By scoring 57 runs, he guided the Afghan innings perfectly, allowing other batters like Azmatullah Omarzai to play more freely towards the end.

Due to this organized batting effort, Afghanistan completed the chase in the 18th over. They displayed a commanding batting performance in the second innings that allowed them to seal the T20I series with an unassailable lead.

Both teams will now play the last match of the series at the same venue on November 1. The home side will try to win the next match by revisiting its batting strategy, whereas Afghanistan will aim to complete a clean sweep to finish the series in a dominant fashion.
