Afghanistan Dominates Scotland by 61 Runs in T20 World Cup 2026 Warm-up Match

Afghanistan won the toss at the BCCI Centre of Excellence Ground 1 in Bengaluru and elected to bat first in their ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 warm-up match against Scotland. Afghanistan set a competitive total of 184/6 in their allotted 20 overs, powered by a spectacular innings from Darwish Rasooli.

Darwish Rasooli Leads Afghanistan

Rasooli top-scored for Afghanistan with 84 runs off just 46 balls, including seven fours and five sixes, before retiring out. Mohammad Nabi added a valuable 34 from 16 deliveries, striking two boundaries and two sixes at a strike rate of 212.50. Ibrahim Zadran contributed 36 runs off 32 balls, giving the innings stability alongside Rasooli’s attacking display.

Gulbadin Naib, Sediqullah Atal, and Azmatullah Omarzai fell cheaply, but Afghanistan’s lower order ensured they posted a formidable total. Extras contributed 8 runs to the final total.

Brad Currie, Jack Jarvis, and Mark Watt each picked up a wicket for Scotland, with Jarvis conceding 57 runs in his four overs.

Scotland Struggled in Response

Chasing 185, Scotland managed only 123 runs in 19.3 overs, falling short by 61 runs. George Munsey made 13 off 13 balls, while Michael Jones added 21, and Brandon McMullen scored 20 at a strike rate of 166.66.

Azmatullah Omarzai was Afghanistan’s most successful bowler with three wickets, while Ziaur Rahman and Rashid Khan chipped in with crucial breakthroughs. Mujeeb Ur Rahman and Fazalhaq Farooqi kept the scoring rate under control, ensuring a comprehensive victory for Afghanistan.

Darwish Rasooli’s explosive innings earned him Player of the Match, further boosting Afghanistan’s confidence ahead of the tournament.
