Pakistan have strengthened their position in the ICC Men’s ODI rankings after a strong start to the ongoing tri-series at Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium. Two successive wins against Sri Lanka and England have lifted them to fourth place, pushing Australia down to fifth.

The national side now have 103 rating points, just one behind third-placed South Africa. New Zealand are second with 109 points, while India lead the table with 115.

Pakistan’s latest success came on Tuesday when they defeated England by 87 runs, adding another win to their campaign and improving their standing in the world rankings.

Talking about the latest match, Arafat Minhas played a key role in Pakistan’s win, making 59 off 58 balls before taking six wickets for 40 runs. This was his best bowling figures in international cricket so far, which eventually deflated England’s batting plans in Rawalpindi.

Meanwhile, Hasan Nawaz led Pakistan’s scoring with 79 off 74 deliveries, while Faheem Ashraf added 39 from just 26 balls towards the end. Apart from them, Saad Baig also chipped in with 35 runs, helping Pakistan recover from 81-4 and finish on 302-9.

In the second innings, England struggled to keep up with the required run rate and were all out for 215, handing Pakistan a convincing win. Tom Banton scored 57 runs, while Ben Duckett contributed 45, but the rest of the batting line-up failed to get close to the big target of 303 runs.

Arafat Minhas was at the centre of England’s downfall, dismissing Will Jacks and Adil Rashid with back-to-back deliveries before running out Gus Atkinson. Due to his strong all-round efforts, the green shirts thumped England by 87 runs to secure top spot on the tri-series points table.

With two wins behind them, Pakistan will look to carry this form into their next tri-series match, as they push for a higher spot in the ICC ODI rankings.

Pakistan climbed to fourth in the ICC ODI rankings after beating England by 87 runs, with Arafat Minhas starring with both bat and ball in Rawalpindi.

England vs Sri Lanka Preview

The ENG vs SL encounter offers both teams an opportunity to recover from disappointing tournament starts. England suffered an 87-run defeat after a middle-order collapse against Pakistan, while Sri Lanka lost their opening fixture by 37 runs.

Harry Brook's England will look to address their struggles against spin, which proved costly in their previous outing. Sri Lanka, led by Kusal Mendis, must find greater consistency through the middle and lower order to avoid another defeat.

Pakistan have won both their opening matches and hold a strong position in the standings. With the tournament moving to Lahore for its remaining fixtures, Thursday's contest could prove important in determining which visiting team stays in contention.

ENG vs SL Key Player Battles to Watch

Harry Brook vs Sachindu Colombage

Brook remains central to England's batting plans. His ability to attack spin makes him dangerous, but he will need to choose his scoring options carefully against Colombage. The Sri Lankan spinner could play a significant role if the pitch offers grip and turn.

Kusal Mendis vs Gus Atkinson

Mendis will be expected to anchor Sri Lanka's innings and provide stability at the top. Atkinson's pace and ability to generate bounce could test the Sri Lankan captain, particularly during the early overs. Winning this contest could help England put pressure on Sri Lanka's batting order.

Batting first, the green shirts posted a big total of 302 in the first innings, courtesy of strong batting efforts by Hasan Nawaz and Arafat Minhas. The duo struck brilliant fifties in the first innings, which allowed Pakistan to recover from a poor start and post a formidable total on the board.

Coming out to chase the target, England got off to a great start as Ben Duckett and Tom Banton played fearlessly in the powerplay. Pakistan vs England ODI Tri-Series Match Summary and Highlights

RAWALPINDI: A masterclass in spin bowling from young all-rounder Arafat Minhas triggered a catastrophic England batting collapse, steering Pakistan to a commanding victory in the second match of the 2026–27 ODI Tri-Series at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium.

Showing immense resilience under pressure, the hosts successfully defended a total of 302 before bundling the visitors out for 215, meaning Pakistan won by 87 runs to maintain their perfect start in the tournament.

Asked to bat first, Pakistan found themselves in a precarious position after a disciplined opening spell from the English seamers. The home side slumped to a worrying 133 for 5. However, the game shifted dramatically when Arafat Minhas (59) and Hasan Nawaz (79) joined the lower-middle order.

The youngsters anchored the tail with absolute composure, striking boundaries to resurrect the innings. Blending watchful defense with authoritative boundary-hitting, Hasan Nawaz and Arafat Minhas propelled Pakistan past the 300-mark, finishing on 302 for 9 at the end of their 50 overs.

In reply, England’s chase began with absolute authority. Openers Tom Banton and Ben Duckett provided a good start in powerplay, dismantling Pakistan’s new-ball attack on a surface that seemed to have flattened out. Banton looked particularly dangerous, finding gaps at will and clearing the infield with crisp timing. Even as Duckett departed, Banton's half-century (57) kept the visitors firmly in the driver’s seat.

At 91 for no loss in 14 overs, and subsequently cruising past the 100-mark with plenty of wickets in hand, England looked well on course to chase down the target with minimum fuss.

Then came the turning point that turned the Rawalpindi crowd into a frenzy. Introduced into the attack to break the partnership, Minhas completely turned the game on its head. Deploying subtle variations in pace and extracting sharp turn from the surface, the left-arm spinner broke the opening stand and then relentlessly tore through England’s batting spine.

English batsmen struggled to read the drift, playing down the wrong line as wickets tumbled in rapid succession. From a position of absolute control, England fell like a pack of cards, losing their final ten wickets for just over a hundred runs. Arafat Minhas' 6 for 40 completely dismantled the opposition, marking one of the most sensational individual turnarounds in recent ODI history.

England were eventually bundled out for 215 in 38.4 overs, falling comprehensively short of the target. Minhas was universally named Player of the Match for his extraordinary all-round exploits. With two wins from two matches, Pakistan commands the top of the Tri-Series table, while England must quickly regroup before they face Sri Lanka on Thursday at the same venue.

Overcoming Tom Banton's half-century, Arafat Minhas' 6 for 40 triggered a dramatic collapse in Rawalpindi as Pakistan won by 87 runs in the Tri-Series.

PAK vs ENG Tri-Series: Arafat Minhas' 6 Wickets Power a Victory to Pakistan

RAWALPINDI: Chasing a challenging target of 303, England launched a blistering reply under the lights at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium, courtesy of England's strong start in powerplay. Openers Tom Banton and Ben Duckett showcased sublime intent, navigating the new ball with precision to guide the visitors to a commanding 65/0 after the first 10 overs.

The opening pair seamlessly countered Pakistan's new-ball attack, utilizing the true bounce of the Rawalpindi deck to dictate terms early in the innings. With the hosts deploying speedsters Shaheen Shah Afridi and Naseem Shah, the English batters relied on excellent footwork and strong shot selection.

Banton, looking particularly fluent, set the tone in the third over by punching Shaheen through the covers for a boundary, before Duckett joined the act with his trademark sweeps and fierce cuts against the testing lines of Haris Rauf.

The tactical battle intensified as the field restrictions forced Pakistan's skipper, Shaheen Afridi, to experiment with his line and length. However, the disciplined English duo capitalised on anything short or wide, regularly finding the ropes to keep the required run rate well within check. Pakistan's fielding unit scrambled under pressure, failing to mount any significant dot-ball pressure as England rotated the strike effortlessly.

By the time the PAK vs ENG powerplay concluded, the visitors had effectively laid a formidable foundation for the 238 runs remaining in their pursuit.

Earlier in the day, Pakistan managed to recover from a middle-order collapse of 133-5, clawing their way back to a competitive total of 302/9 in 50 overs. The resurrection was led by a brilliant, counter-attacking 79 from Hasan Nawaz, who found an able ally in all-rounder Arafat Minhas. Minhas contributed a vital 59 to anchor the lower order, ensuring the home side crossed the 300-run milestone.

Despite the late flourish from the local side, England’s opening batsmen have turned the tide rapidly, swinging the momentum back in favour of Harry Brook's men with their aggressive approach to modern ODI cricket.

As the field now spreads out for the middle overs, Pakistan’s spin faces the daunting task of breaking this blossoming partnership. With England firmly in the driver's seat at 65 without loss, the upcoming phase will test Pakistan's tactical resilience on a surface that still promises plenty of runs for batters who apply themselves well.

Tom Banton and Ben Duckett produced England's strong start in powerplay, racing to 65/0 in pursuit of 303 against Pakistan in Rawalpindi.

PAK vs ENG Powerplay: Banton, Duckett Fire 65/0 in Chase

RAWALPINDI: The Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium witnessed a thrilling first-innings recovery today as Pakistan overcame a catastrophic top-order collapse to post a formidable total against England. In a true test of depth during the second match of the 2026–27 ODI Tri-Series, Pakistan scored 302 runs for the loss of nine wickets, snatching momentum right back from the tourists after a dismal start.

The match began in dramatic fashion after England won the toss and elected to field under overcast skies. Pakistan’s top order crumbled almost instantly against a fiery opening burst from Gus Atkinson. Atkinson struck with the very first ball of the match, dismissing the dangerous Fakhar Zaman for a golden duck. Saim Ayub followed shortly after, undone by a sharp bouncer from Sonny Baker.

When Will Jacks deceived the prolific Babar Azam to leave the hosts reeling at a precarious 59/3 at the first drinks break, the stadium fell silent. The situation worsened significantly when Salman Ali Agha (16) was dismissed cheaply, leaving the middle order exposed and Pakistan teetering on the brink of disaster at 133/5.

With the innings in danger of completely falling away, the rescue mission fell upon the shoulders of the younger contingent. Pakistan successfully navigated out of this crisis through spectacular Hasan and Arafat half-centuries.

Stepping up under immense pressure, Hasan Nawaz counter-attacked with brilliant composure, smashing an explosive 79 runs off 74 deliveries. He found an equally resilient partner in all-rounder Arafat Minhas, who played a beautifully paced knock of 59 off 58 balls. Together, the duo stitched an invaluable 78-run partnership for the sixth wicket, altering the complexion of the game.

Hasan’s aggressive strokeplay forced England to alter their field placements, while Arafat seamlessly rotated the strike to punish the spinners. Although Sonny Baker broke the partnership and finished as England's pick of the bowlers with 3/65, the damage had been done. Tail-ender Haris Rauf struck a boundary off the final ball of the 50th over to ensure Pakistan comfortably crossed the psychological 300-run milestone.

This sensational recovery from 133/5 to a final score of 302/9 has set up a massive second-innings challenge for England. The intense PAK vs ENG battle now hangs beautifully in the balance.

Hasan Nawaz and Arafat Minhas struck key half-centuries as Pakistan scored 302 after recovering from 133/5 in the PAK vs ENG Tri-Series match.

PAK vs ENG: Pakistan Scored 302 After Middle-Order Stand

Brendon McCullum believes England will need to adjust their game to compete with Pakistan and Sri Lanka in the ODI tri-series. The England white-ball coach said handling the conditions in the subcontinent would be important for his team as they aim to book a place in the final.

England are taking part in the three-team tournament in Pakistan, where they will face two sides familiar with playing in these conditions. McCullum knows his players cannot afford to take either opponent lightly and will need to find the right approach to challenge them in the upcoming matches.

“Pakistan are a very strong side, obviously. When you come to this part of the world, you have to do things differently. Playing subcontinent teams in subcontinent conditions has its own challenges,” said England head coach Brendon McCullum.

“That's something we're looking forward to. We want to be a team that can compete in all conditions against any opposition. That's a challenge we need to embrace. We need to make sure we're able to adjust to whatever the conditions are.” added Brendon McCullum.

McCullum further talked about the challenge of playing a tri-series, saying it is an event in which you need to play two different oppositions and adjust your game according to it quickly.

“Particularly in a tri-series, you're going to have to bounce between two different oppositions as well. It's a real opportunity for us. We're looking forward to being here. We're respectful of how strong both Pakistan and Sri Lanka are. We're going to have to be at our best to give ourselves a chance of making the final,” said Brendon McCullum while talking to the reporters.

McCullum then praised Pakistan’s hospitality, saying his team had visited the country a number of times over the last few years, which has given them a better understanding of its people and cricketing talent.

“Firstly, it’s wonderful to be back in Pakistan. We have toured Pakistan a number of times over the last few years, and each time we have enjoyed not just the hospitality but also the hard-fought cricket,” said Brendon McCullum.

“We have had some success and been beaten on occasions as well, so we know that taking on Pakistan and a good Sri Lankan side in a tri-series is going to be a difficult task. However, it’s one we are really looking forward to. It’s quite unique playing in a tri-series, and we’re all super excited about it.” added Brendon McCullum.

Brendon McCullum warns England of the challenge posed by Pakistan and Sri Lanka as they prepare for the ODI tri-series in subcontinent conditions.

McCullum Cautions England Ahead of Pakistan Clash in ODI Tri-Series

Pakistan and Sri Lanka have faced fines following their slow over-rates in Sunday's opening game of the ODI tri-series at Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium. Pakistan players were fined 10 per cent of their match fees, while Sri Lanka players received a five per cent penalty.

Match referee Jeff Crowe handed down the punishments after reviewing the time taken by both teams to complete their overs. Pakistan failed to bowl two overs within the required time, while Sri Lanka fell short by one over after the allowed time adjustments were made.

The ICC's Code of Conduct states that teams must pay a fine equal to five per cent of their players' match fees for every over they fail to complete on time. This rule falls under Article 2.22, which covers slow over-rate offences by players and team support staff.

Pakistan captain Shaheen Shah Afridi and Sri Lanka skipper Kusal Mendis admitted to the slow over-rate offences and accepted the fines, meaning no formal hearings were needed.

The charges were brought by on-field umpires Asif Yaqoob and Wayne Knights, third umpire Sharfuddoula Ibne Shahid and fourth umpire Faisal Afridi.

For the unversed, Pakistan got off to a winning start in the ODI tri-series, beating Sri Lanka by 37 runs on Sunday, October 18.

Salman Ali Agha was the standout performer for the hosts, hitting 107 from 90 balls after Sri Lanka captain Kusal Mendis opted to bowl first. His knock helped Pakistan reach 305 before being bowled out in 49.5 overs, which was definitely a good score on Pindi’s pitch.

From the bowling perspective, Eshan Malinga took four wickets for Sri Lanka, while Asitha Fernando finished with three scalps.

Coming out to chase the target, Sri Lanka got off to a steady start, but lost their way in the middle due to which they made just 268 in 48 overs. Pavan Rathnayake kept the visitors in the contest with 79 runs, while Janith Liyanage added 60. The two shared a 119-run stand for the fifth wicket, putting pressure on Pakistan before the home side's bowlers turned things around.

Shaheen Shah Afridi led the attack with three wickets for 55 runs, while Naseem Shah, Haris Rauf and Faheem Ashraf picked up two wickets each to bowl Sri Lanka out for 268.

Meanwhile, Salman Ali Agha received the Player of the Match award for his brilliant hundred, which proved decisive in Pakistan's opening win of the tri-series.

Pakistan and Sri Lanka have been fined for slow over-rates in the ODI tri-series opener, which the green shirts won by 37 runs at Rawalpindi.

Pakistan and Sri Lanka Penalised for Falling Behind Over-Rate Requirements

Pakistan will face England in the second match of the Pakistan vs England ODI Tri-Series on Tuesday, October 20, at Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium. After beating Sri Lanka in their opening fixture, the hosts will look to build on that performance, while England begin their campaign against a confident Pakistan side.

ODI Tri-Series 2026 Current Situation

Pakistan opened the tournament with a 37-run victory over Sri Lanka on October 18. The hosts posted 305 all out in 49.5 overs after being asked to bat first. Salman Agha’s century (107 off 90 deliveries) led the innings, while Babar Azam scored 45. Saad Baig contributed 39 on debut, and Hasan Nawaz added 37 runs.

Sri Lanka remained competitive for much of the chase but lost their final five wickets after reaching 253/5. They were eventually dismissed for 268 in 48.1 overs.

Captain Shaheen Shah Afridi claimed three wickets for 55 runs. Naseem Shah, Haris Rauf, and Faheem Ashraf picked up two wickets apiece to complete the victory.

Pakistan now have two points and an early advantage in the competition. England, however, will present a different challenge with their aggressive batting approach and varied bowling options. England's recent record gives them a psychological advantage, but Pakistan's current form offers encouragement. Their bowling attack showed it could defend a substantial total against Sri Lanka, while Salman Ali Agha's century demonstrated the value of a dependable middle-order batter.

Pakistan vs England Key Player Battles to Watch

1. Babar Azam vs Adil Rashid

Babar Azam will be eager to turn his promising start against Sri Lanka into a substantial score. His ability to rotate the strike and find boundaries during the middle overs will be important for Pakistan.

Adil Rashid could pose a significant threat with his leg-spin and variations. If the surface offers turn, England's experienced spinner may target Babar during a phase when Pakistan look to accelerate their innings.

2. Ben Duckett vs Shaheen Shah Afridi

Ben Duckett's aggressive approach could help England make a fast start in the powerplay. However, Shaheen Shah Afridi remains a major threat with the new ball, particularly when he generates movement towards left-handed batters.

This contest could influence England's early scoring rate. If Shaheen removes Duckett cheaply, Pakistan will have an opportunity to put pressure on the visitors' middle order.

3. Harry Brook vs Haris Rauf

Harry Brook's attacking strokeplay makes him a key batter in England's lineup. He can change the pace of an innings quickly, especially when facing fast bowlers during the middle and final overs.

Haris Rauf will look to counter Brook with pace, hard lengths, and slower deliveries. Their contest could prove particularly important if England need a late acceleration or Pakistan are defending a competitive total.

Buoyed by Salman Ali Agha's century against Sri Lanka, Pakistan aim to extend their winning streak in the Pakistan vs England ODI Tri-Series preview.

PAK vs ENG Preview: Pakistan Target Back-to-Back Tri-Series Wins

RAWALPINDI: A spectacular counter-attacking century from Salman Ali Agha and a dramatic late-innings batting collapse handed Pakistan a thrilling victory in the opening fixture of the ODI Tri-Series.

In front of a passionate home crowd at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium, Pakistan won by 37 runs, successfully defending a competitive total after Sri Lanka’s middle-order threatened to spoil the hosts' tournament opener.

Opting to bat first, the Men in Green found themselves in early trouble against a disciplined Sri Lankan bowling attack, with Eshan Malinga (4/46) slicing through the line-up. Top-order wickets fell in quick succession, leaving the hosts desperate for a partnership. Enter Salman Ali Agha.

The elegant right-hander played the innings of his ODI career, anchoring the side while putting pressure back on the visitors. Agha smashed a masterful 107 off just 90 deliveries, accelerating seamlessly with 10 boundaries and a six to guide Pakistan past the 300-mark. Alongside vital contributions from debutant Saad Baig (39), Pakistan managed to post 305 all out in 49.5 overs.

Sri Lanka’s pursuit of 306 started steadily in powerplay, but it was a magnificent fifth-wicket partnership that truly turned the game on its head. Pavan Rathnayake anchored the chase with a resilient 79, while Janith Liyanage provided explosive support with a well-made 60.

Together, the duo systematically dismantled Pakistan’s spin options and found boundaries at will. At 253 for 5, Sri Lanka looked firmly in control, requiring just 53 runs with plenty of wickets and overs in hand.

However, Pakistan’s premier pace attack chose the perfect moment to ignite under the floodlights, triggering an absolute collapse that saw the visitors lose their final five wickets for a mere 15 runs. Seam all-rounder Faheem Ashraf provided the pivotal breakthrough by dismissing the dangerous Rathnayake, finishing his impactful spell with figures of 2 for 49.

From there, the frontline speedsters took complete charge. Naseem Shah maintained phenomenal control at the death to finish with 2 for 43, while Haris Rauf bowled with blistering pace to clean up the tail, returning figures of 2 for 48. It was captain Shaheen Shah Afridi, however, who led the charts, breaking vital partnerships and returning 3 for 55 to seal the comprehensive collapse.

Sri Lanka were eventually bundled out for 268 in 48.1 overs. With this hard-fought opening victory, Pakistan secures crucial points early in the tournament standings as the action prepares to shift gears with England entering the fray next.

Salman Ali Agha's superb 107 and a stunning five-wicket late collapse saw Pakistan win by 37 runs in the PAK vs SL ODI Tri-Series opener.
