Elena Rybakina won the Women US Open Final after defeating Aryna Sabalenka 6-4, 5-7, 6-2 in a thrilling championship clash at Arthur Ashe Stadium in New York. The victory gave Rybakina her first US Open title and her third Grand Slam championship.

Rybakina entered the final after already taking the Australian Open title earlier in 2026, where she also defeated Sabalenka. The Kazakh player was also guaranteed to become the new world No. 1 after her run to the final.

Sabalenka, meanwhile, was bidding for a third consecutive US Open championship. The top seed had won the tournament in 2024 and 2025 and was looking to extend her dominance in New York.

The final delivered another intense chapter in their growing rivalry. Rybakina's powerful serving and clean baseline hitting eventually proved too much for Sabalenka, who fought back to level the match before Rybakina took control in the deciding set.

Rybakina Takes Control Early

Rybakina made a strong start despite struggling to find her usual rhythm on first serve.

The Kazakh player compensated with excellent baseline tennis and aggressive returns. She repeatedly put pressure on Sabalenka's service games and found success in the longer exchanges.

Sabalenka struggled to settle early and gave Rybakina opportunities with errors and a double fault that helped the second seed secure a crucial break.

Rybakina kept her composure and protected her advantage to take the opening set 6-4.

Her ability to dictate rallies from the baseline was particularly important. Rather than trying to match Sabalenka's power point for point, Rybakina used her accuracy and timing to move the defending champion around the court.

Sabalenka Fights Back

Sabalenka responded strongly in the second set.

The Belarusian began finding more consistency with her serve and increased the pressure on Rybakina's second serve. Her powerful groundstrokes started producing shorter points, allowing her to take control of more rallies.

Rybakina continued to create chances, but Sabalenka refused to let the match slip away.

The defending champion raised her level late in the set and eventually broke Rybakina before serving for the set. Sabalenka held her nerve and forced a deciding set by winning the second 7-5.

The momentum had shifted, but Rybakina showed no signs of panic.

Rybakina Dominates the Deciding Set

The third set belonged to Rybakina. After losing the second set, she immediately reset and produced her strongest tennis of the match. Her serve finally began working at its best level, while her groundstrokes remained accurate and aggressive.

Sabalenka struggled to match the intensity.

Rybakina quickly established control and began creating pressure in almost every Sabalenka service game. Her returns forced the defending champion into difficult positions, while her powerful backhand helped her control the baseline exchanges.

The Kazakh player continued to attack without giving Sabalenka many opportunities to recover.

Rybakina eventually closed out the deciding set 6-2 to secure the biggest victory of her US Open career.

Rybakina Wins First US Open Title

Elena Rybakina won the US Open Final 6-4, 5-7, 6-2 to claim her first championship at Flushing Meadows.

The victory also completed a remarkable hard-court season for the 27-year-old. She had already defeated Sabalenka in the Australian Open final earlier in the year and now repeated the result at the US Open.

Rybakina's Grand Slam collection now includes Wimbledon 2022, the Australian Open 2026 and the US Open 2026. She is also just one French Open title away from completing a career Grand Slam.

The result also confirmed Rybakina's rise to world No. 1. She replaced Sabalenka at the top of the rankings after the Belarusian had held the position for 99 consecutive weeks.

Sabalenka Misses Out on US Open Three-Peat

Sabalenka's defeat ended her bid for a third straight US Open title after winning the tournament in 2024 and 2025. The top seed fought back from a set down to force a decider but could not stop Rybakina.

The loss also ended Sabalenka's 19-match winning streak at the US Open. Despite the defeat, reaching another Grand Slam final confirmed her place among women's tennis elite.

Rybakina Becomes New World No. 1

The US Open victory gave Rybakina more than another Grand Slam trophy.

She became the first player representing Kazakhstan to reach the top position in the women's singles rankings. Her rise capped a major turnaround after injury concerns had threatened her participation in the tournament.

Rybakina also became the first player since 1994 to face the same opponent in both the Australian Open and US Open women's singles finals in the same year.

Her calm approach under pressure proved decisive once again against Sabalenka.

Zverev Makes Strong Start

Zverev entered the US Open Final with plenty of experience on the biggest stage and immediately looked comfortable under the pressure.

The German used his serve to control points and repeatedly pushed Shelton deep behind the baseline. His two-handed backhand also created problems, particularly during long rallies where Zverev was able to absorb Shelton's pace before changing direction.

Shelton responded with his trademark aggressive approach. The American looked to shorten rallies with powerful serves and forehand winners, while the home crowd regularly lifted him during important points.

The opening stages quickly established the pattern of the contest. Zverev preferred extended exchanges and measured attacks, while Shelton searched for opportunities to finish points early.

Shelton Fights Back

Shelton refused to allow Zverev to dictate the match for long.

The American increased the pressure on Zverev's second serve and began finding more success with his forehand. His serve also remained a major weapon, giving him several quick points whenever he needed to stop Zverev's momentum.

The atmosphere inside Arthur Ashe Stadium grew louder as Shelton produced a series of aggressive winners.

Zverev, however, remained composed. Rather than rushing into attacking exchanges, he continued to rely on his consistency and looked for openings through longer rallies.

Zverev Handles the Pressure

As the US Open Final moved deeper into the match, the pressure on both players increased.

Every service game became important, with neither player willing to give away cheap points. Zverev's experience became increasingly valuable as he managed the key moments with greater patience.

Shelton continued to attack but found it increasingly difficult to maintain the same level of aggression throughout every rally.

Zverev's ability to defend and then turn defence into attack allowed him to win several crucial points. His powerful serve also helped him avoid extended pressure on his own service games.

Zverev Completes Grand Slam Breakthrough

Zverev eventually closed out the contest to win the US Open Final and claim the Grand Slam title that had previously escaped him.

The victory marked a major moment in the German's career. After coming close at other major tournaments, Zverev finally completed his long-awaited Grand Slam breakthrough in New York.

Shelton's run to the final was also a significant achievement. The American showed the quality and confidence required to compete against one of the world's leading players and established himself as a major threat on the biggest stages.

Alexander Zverev won the US Open Final and added one of tennis' biggest trophies to his career record.

The German's combination of serving power, defensive ability and patience proved decisive against Shelton's aggressive style. While the American produced several moments of brilliance, Zverev was able to maintain his level when the stakes were highest.

For Shelton, the defeat ended an impressive run in New York but provided another major step in his development. For Zverev, the victory delivered the Grand Slam breakthrough he had been chasing for years.

Alexander Zverev defeated Ben Shelton in the US Open Final to claim his first Grand Slam title after a thrilling battle in New York.

Alexander Zverev vs Ben Shelton US Open Final Highlights

Ben Shelton has reached the US Open men’s singles final for the first time after producing a determined comeback victory over fellow American Frances Tiafoe in a gripping semifinal at Arthur Ashe Stadium.

Shelton overcame a slow start to defeat the 11th-seeded Tiafoe 4-6, 6-3, 6-3, 7-5, turning the match around after surrendering the opening set. The victory sends the eighth-seeded American into his first Grand Slam singles final, completing one of the most significant breakthroughs of his young career.

The semifinal was an all-American contest filled with powerful serving, explosive rallies and momentum swings. Tiafoe made the stronger start, taking advantage of opportunities in the opening set and forcing Shelton to play from behind. Rather than allowing the setback to affect him, Shelton gradually found greater control over his game and began to dictate more exchanges from the baseline.

The turning point came in the second set, when Shelton raised his intensity and began putting increasing pressure on Tiafoe. His aggressive left-handed serve became a major weapon, while his movement and defense helped him stay in rallies that might otherwise have slipped away. Shelton leveled the match and carried that momentum into the third set, where another surge put him firmly in command.

Tiafoe refused to surrender. The fourth set developed into a tense battle, with both players aware that one break of serve could decide the contest. Shelton remained composed during the crucial stages and continued to attack rather than retreat into a defensive approach. He eventually created the opening he needed and closed out the match at 7-5.

It should be noted that Shelton’s run in the US Open 2026 been built on resilience. Before facing Tiafoe, he survived a dramatic five-set quarterfinal against defending champion Carlos Alcaraz, winning a deciding-set tiebreak to reach the last four. That victory gave him confidence and demonstrated his ability to handle pressure deep into major tournaments.

For Tiafoe, the defeat ends another memorable US Open campaign. The 28-year-old had reached the semifinals after a strong tournament and will leave New York knowing he pushed his younger compatriot through four highly competitive sets. His performance nevertheless underlined his continued importance on the American tennis scene.

Ben Shelton fought back from a set down to beat Frances Tiafoe and reach his first US Open final, completing a major breakthrough in New York.

Ben Shelton Books First US Open Final Spot After Defeating Tiafoe

Coco Gauff admitted she was struggling to look beyond her US Open semifinal defeat after Elena Rybakina ended her title hopes at Flushing Meadows on Thursday. Coco Gauff speaks after the semifinal loss came after the American fell 3-6, 6-4, 6-4 despite taking the opening set.

The defeat marked Gauff's second successive Grand Slam semifinal loss. She had previously been beaten by Karolina Muchova at Wimbledon, while her US Open exit also ended a strong run of form that included a WTA 1000 title in Cincinnati.

Gauff had also reached the semifinals in Toronto following her Wimbledon campaign before arriving in New York. The 22-year-old, however, said those achievements offered little consolation immediately after her defeat to Rybakina.

Her father, Corey Gauff, attempted to put the result into perspective by reminding her of what she had accomplished during the summer. The two-time Grand Slam champion said she was not ready to focus on those positives.

“Right now it sucks. My dad came up and was like ‘You accomplished so many great things this summer.’ I’m like, 'I don’t care about the summer,'" Gauff said.

Gauff Remains Focused on US Open Title

Winning the US Open remains a major objective for Gauff, who has previously lifted the trophy in New York. Despite another semifinal appearance, she believes the result will only matter if she eventually gives herself a chance to win the title.

"Right now that’s where my head is at. It’s the goal. I want to be a consistent player. I want to give myself as many opportunities to lift the trophy. But yeah it hurts. It’s all great, but I think the competitor in me..." the American tennis star added.

Gauff also acknowledged that another deep run could provide valuable experience as she continues to compete for major titles.

"This is the tournament I want to perform at. I did perform, but this is the one where you want to come out with the win. But it’s definitely a learning experience. I hope to continue to keep putting myself in positions to hopefully win.”

Gauff will now look to build on another Grand Slam run as she targets greater consistency in the latter stages of major tournaments.

Coco Gauff speaks after semifinal loss at the US Open, admitting her frustration following a three-set defeat to Elena Rybakina despite her strong summer run.

Coco Gauff Speaks After Semifinal Loss to Elena Rybakina at US Open

Alexander Zverev reached the US Open 2026 final after defeating Karen Khachanov in straight sets at Arthur Ashe Stadium. The German secured a 6-3, 7-6, 7-6 victory in a closely contested semifinal to book his place in the championship match.

Zverev made a strong start and took control of the opening set. He managed to break away from Khachanov and claimed the set 6-3, giving himself an early advantage in the semifinal. Khachanov struggled to turn his opportunities into a response as Zverev remained composed and protected his lead.

The second set was a much tighter contest. Khachanov stayed competitive and put greater pressure on Zverev, but the German refused to give up his advantage. Neither player was able to take the set in regular games, forcing it into a tiebreak.

Zverev then held his nerve in the crucial moments and won the tiebreak to move two sets ahead. Khachanov had pushed him hard, but the Russian was unable to find a way through Zverev's game when it mattered most.

The third set followed a similar pattern, with both players battling closely throughout. Khachanov needed to win the set to keep his hopes of reaching the final alive, while Zverev was just one tiebreak away from completing the victory.

Once again, Zverev delivered under pressure. The set went to another tiebreak, where the German maintained his composure and secured the win. After taking the opening set 6-3, he won both of the following sets through tiebreaks to complete a straight-sets victory.

The result sends Zverev into his second US Open final. His performance was built around consistency and his ability to handle the biggest moments, particularly during the two deciding tiebreaks.

Khachanov deserves credit for making the semifinal competitive after the opening set. He continued to challenge Zverev in the second and third sets and forced both to be decided in tiebreaks. However, he could not produce the decisive points needed to extend the match into a fourth set.

For Zverev, the victory represents another major step in his US Open campaign. The German has now moved through the semifinal and will have a chance to fight for the Grand Slam title in the final.

The straight-sets victory also showed Zverev’s ability to remain focused during a match in which the pressure continued to increase. After taking the first set comfortably, Zverev had to work much harder in the next two, but he won both tiebreaks to finish the job effectively.

Alexander Zverev secured his place in the US Open 2026 final after defeating Karen Khachanov in a hard-fought semifinal at Arthur Ashe Stadium.

Alexander Zverev Defeats Khachanov To Reach Second US Open Final

Aryna Sabalenka has reacted to losing the world No 1 ranking to Elena Rybakina after reaching the US Open 2026 final, with Sabalenka speaking about losing no 1 spot following her straight-sets victory over Jessica Pegula.

Sabalenka secured her place in the title match by beating Pegula, but her run in New York was not enough to prevent Rybakina from taking the top position. The Kazakh became the 30th world No 1 in WTA Tour history to reach the US Open semi-finals before defeating Coco Gauff to set up a final against Sabalenka.

Rybakina will remain at No 1 even if Sabalenka wins the final, meaning the Belarusian will begin the WTA Tour's Asian swing behind her rival in the rankings.

Sabalenka Praises Rybakina

Sabalenka acknowledged the difficulty of reaching the top of the rankings and accepted that her results during the middle part of the season had contributed to the change.

“I really understand how tough it is to reach world No. 1. It was one of my goals. But right now, not much I could do. I didn’t really perform well in the middle of the season,” Sabalenka said.

She also credited Rybakina for taking advantage of her opportunity and said she would focus on her own performance in the final rather than the rankings.

“Elena took it over and played really well,” she said of her upcoming US Open final opponent.

“She took away the number one position. Not much I can do about that.

“I can only focus on myself and stay in the moment and try to do my best right now. Just keep it tight and maybe I will take it back from her.”

Sabalenka admitted it was unusual to perform well at a Grand Slam and still lose the top ranking, but said she accepted the competitive nature of the sport.

“It does feel a bit weird you can perform well at the tournament and still be taken away the number one position. It’s okay. It’s sport. I love that. That’s the beauty of sport. Everyone chasing everyone. It’s all about little things you improve and get better at.”

The US Open final will give Sabalenka a chance to challenge Rybakina directly, although the outcome will not change the latter's position at the top of the rankings.

Aryna Sabalenka spoke about losing the No. 1 spot to Elena Rybakina after reaching the US Open final, admitting the ranking shift felt "a bit weird."

US Open: Sabalenka Speaks About Losing No. 1 Ranking

Elena Rybakina produced a strong comeback against Coco Gauff to reach the 2026 US Open final at Arthur Ashe Stadium.

The second-seeded Rybakina recovered after losing the opening set 3-6, then won the next two sets 6-4, 6-4 to complete a three-set victory. The result sends the Kazakhstani into her first US Open final, where she will face defending champion Aryna Sabalenka.

Gauff made the better start and looked comfortable during the opening set. Rybakina gradually found her rhythm, however, and her powerful serve and aggressive baseline game began to change the momentum.

Tiafoe Fights Back From Two Sets Down

Tiafoe enters the semifinal after one of the most dramatic comebacks of the tournament.

The No. 11 seed fell two sets behind Alex Michelsen before turning the match around. Tiafoe eventually won 5-7, 3-6, 7-5, 6-3, 7-6(6) after four hours and 38 minutes.

He also had to recover from a difficult position in the third set, making the comeback even more impressive.

The victory sent Tiafoe into his third US Open semifinal. All three of his Grand Slam semifinal appearances have come in New York.

Tiafoe will now look to take another step toward his first Grand Slam final.

Shelton Stuns Alcaraz in Five Sets

Shelton arrives after producing one of the biggest wins of his career.

The No. 8 seed defeated defending champion Carlos Alcaraz 6-7(5), 6-1, 6-3, 1-6, 7-6(7) in a four-hour, 28-minute thriller.

The match finished at 3:33 a.m., making it the latest finish in US Open history. Shelton sealed the victory with a 146 mph ace and earned his first win over a Top-3 opponent.

The result also gave Shelton another US Open semifinal appearance after reaching the last four in 2023.

His serve, aggressive returns and powerful groundstrokes will be major weapons against Tiafoe.

Shelton Leads the Head-to-Head

Shelton holds a 3-1 advantage over Tiafoe in their previous meetings.

However, Tiafoe has won their only previous US Open encounter.

The pair met in the third round in New York in 2024, when Tiafoe survived a five-set battle 4-6, 7-5, 6-7(5), 6-4, 6-3.

Their latest US Open meeting will therefore be another chapter in a growing rivalry. The semifinal is also their third US Open meeting in four years.

Another Historic US Open Meeting

The semifinal carries significance beyond the tournament itself.

Tiafoe and Shelton are two of the leading American men of their generation, and one of them will become the first of the pair to reach a Grand Slam final.

The winner would also become only the third Black American man to reach a Grand Slam men's singles final, joining Arthur Ashe and MaliVai Washington.

With both players coming off five-set victories, the physical and mental battle could be just as important as their shot-making.

Tiafoe will look to use his experience and ability to change the rhythm of a match, while Shelton will rely heavily on his serve and first-strike tennis.

Zverev Enters as the Favorite

Zverev has recovered strongly after being pushed into five sets in each of his opening two matches at the tournament.

The German survived Lorenzo Sonego and Quentin Halys before finding a higher level in the later rounds. He has since won nine consecutive sets, including his straight-set quarterfinal victory over van de Zandschulp.

Zverev is also playing with the confidence of a Grand Slam champion after winning his first major title at Roland Garros earlier this year. He also reached the Wimbledon final and has been one of the most consistent players on tour throughout 2026.

Khachanov Brings a Big-Hitting Game

Khachanov has produced an impressive run in New York and is back in the US Open semifinals four years after his previous appearance at this stage.

The Russian defeated No. 5 seed Felix Auger-Aliassime in the fourth round before overcoming Learner Tien in a five-set battle. He then advanced to the semifinals when Blockx retired during their quarterfinal.

His powerful first serve and forehand will be central to the Alexander Zverev vs Karen Khachanov matchup. Both players are tall, aggressive baseliners who prefer to control rallies with their serve and groundstrokes.

Zverev himself described their games as similar, saying the player who controls the baseline better should have the advantage.

Zverev Leads the Head-to-Head

Zverev has won six of their nine previous meetings, while Khachanov has three victories.

However, the head-to-head does not tell the whole story. All three of Khachanov's wins over Zverev have come on hard courts, giving the Russian reason to believe he can challenge the German in New York. Their most recent meeting came at the 2025 Cincinnati Masters, where Zverev was leading 7-5, 3-0 when Khachanov retired.

The two also met in Toronto in 2025, where Khachanov won a tight three-set battle.

A Place in the US Open Final Awaits

The winner of the Zverev vs Khachanov semi final will advance to the 2026 US Open final and move one victory away from a Grand Slam title.

For Zverev, another win would give him a chance to add the US Open trophy to his Roland Garros title. He was also the US Open runner-up in 2020 after losing to Dominic Thiem from two sets up.

Khachanov is still chasing his first Grand Slam final. His previous semifinal appearances at the 2022 US Open and 2023 Australian Open both ended in defeat.

The semifinal is scheduled for 3:00 PM in New York on September 11, making it 12:00 AM in Pakistan on September 12. The match will be played at Arthur Ashe Stadium.

Zverev vs Khachanov US Open Semifinal Preview

Karen Khachanov advanced to the US Open semifinals after Alexander Blockx was forced to retire during their quarterfinal at Arthur Ashe Stadium.

Khachanov was leading 6-2, 7-5, 3-2 when Blockx ended the match after one hour and 37 minutes. The Belgian had already been dealing with a rib injury from his previous match and entered the quarterfinal with his right thigh heavily bandaged.

Despite the unfortunate ending, Khachanov had controlled much of the contest with his powerful forehand and consistent baseline play. He now returns to the US Open semifinals for the second time in his career.

Khachanov Takes Control Early

Khachanov made the stronger start and quickly put pressure on Blockx's serve.

The Russian used his powerful forehand to dictate rallies and repeatedly pushed Blockx behind the baseline. He broke twice to move 5-2 ahead before serving out the opening set 6-2.

Blockx struggled to find his usual level as his physical problems continued to affect his movement.

Blockx Battles Through the Second Set

The Belgian fought harder in the second set and managed to stay close to Khachanov.

Blockx showed flashes of the form that had carried him to the quarterfinals, but his physical condition remained a concern. During the set, he was seen stretching his back and hip as he walked toward the baseline.

Khachanov remained patient and waited for his opportunities. After Blockx held for 4-3, Khachanov maintained his pressure and eventually broke through late in the set.

He closed out the second 7-5 to move within one set of the semifinals.

Blockx Retires in the Third

Khachanov continued to hold the advantage at the start of the third set.

The Russian moved ahead 3-2 before Blockx decided he could not continue. The Belgian's physical problems had become too difficult to overcome after entering the match with an existing rib injury and other issues affecting his movement.

After one hour and 37 minutes, Blockx retired, sending Khachanov into the final four.

Khachanov Reaches US Open Semifinals

The victory puts Khachanov into his second US Open semifinal, matching his run from 2022.

The Russian has produced an impressive run in New York after entering the tournament unseeded. He defeated No. 3 seed Félix Auger-Aliassime earlier in the tournament before beating Learner Tien in a five-set fourth-round comeback.

His semifinal opponent will be top seed Alexander Zverev, who defeated Botic van de Zandschulp in straight sets.

The semifinal will be a rematch of the 2020 Tokyo Olympics final, where Zverev defeated Khachanov to win the gold medal.

For Blockx, the quarterfinal run remains a major breakthrough. The 21-year-old Belgian became the first Belgian man to reach the US Open quarterfinals and produced a major upset by defeating No. 5 seed Francisco Cerundolo in the previous round.
