NEW DELHI: India's power-hitting secured a stunning 127-run victory over Afghanistan in the third T20I at the Arun Jaitley Stadium. With this resounding win, India whitewashed Afghanistan 3-0 in the bilateral series, underscoring their absolute dominance across all departments of the game.

The foundation of the victory was laid by a spectacular, record-breaking century from opener Abhishek Sharma. Deciding to set a target, India posted a mammoth total of 221 for 7 in 20 overs. Sharma tore the Afghan bowling attack apart, hammering a blistering 108 runs off just 34 deliveries.

His explosive innings was decorated with 11 colossal sixes and explicit boundary-clearing shots that kept the local crowd on their feet. Alongside Sanju Samson, who played a steady anchoring role with a well-made 50 off 35 balls, Sharma stitched together a devastating 142-run opening partnership.

Despite a late fightback from Afghanistan’s Azmatullah Omarzai, who picked up 2 wickets for 27 runs to slow down the lower-middle order, the damage had already been heavily inflicted.

Faced with a daunting target of 222, Afghanistan’s run chase never found momentum and quickly derailed under scoreboard pressure. The visitors struggled to handle the variation and discipline of the Indian bowling attack. Opener Ibrahim Zadran offered a glimmer of resistance, scoring a quickfire 25 off 16 balls, but his departure triggered a batting collapse.

India’s bowlers gave the opposition no room to breathe. Leg-spinner Ravi Bishnoi bamboozled the middle order with his sharp googlies, registering figures of 3 for 26. All-rounder Nitish Kumar Reddy matched the intensity, utilizing his pace and variations effectively to clean up the tail and finish with an impressive 3 for 25.

Afghanistan's lineup folded in just 14.1 overs, bundled out for a mere 94 runs. By the time the final wicket fell, India defeated Afghanistan comprehensively to wrap up the match and the series. This emphatic victory not only seals a flawless whitewash for the hosts but also highlights India's immense bench strength and technical superiority as they continue to build momentum for upcoming international assignments.

Afghanistan, meanwhile, will look to address their batting vulnerabilities against high-quality spin and pace before their next global outing.

Abhishek Sharma’s explosive 108 powered India to a 127-run victory over Afghanistan in the third T20I, securing a 3-0 series whitewash at the Arun Jaitley Stadium.

India Whitewashed Afghanistan 3-0 as Abhishek Sharma Smashes 108

NEW DELHI: Opening batter Abhishek Sharma shattered records to propel India to a commanding total of 221/7 in the IND vs AFG 3rd t20 at the Arun Jaitley Stadium. Having already clinched the three-match bilateral series 2-0, the hosts showed no signs of complacency in this final dead-rubber clash.

Powerplay Mayhem Settles the Tone

Opting to field first after winning the toss, Afghanistan captain Ibrahim Zadran hoped his bowlers could exploit any early assistance from the Delhi surface. Instead, they ran straight into a cricketing hurricane. Sharma, partnered alongside wicketkeeper-batter Sanju Samson, unleashed a relentless assault from the opening over. The duo rewrote the record books by hammering 100 runs within the first six overs, marking the highest powerplay score in India's T20I history.

Sharma raced to his half-century off just 16 deliveries. Zadran threw a tactical gamble by introducing veteran off-spinner Mohammad Nabi to stem the flow of runs, but the move backfired spectacularly as Nabi conceded 29 runs in his solitary over.

Abhishek Sharma Climbs the Record Books

There was no respite for the touring side as Sharma marched onwards to cross the three-figure mark in an astonishing 30 balls, registering the fastest T20I century by an Indian cricketer. His breathtaking innings of 108 runs came off a mere 34 deliveries, decorated with 9 boundaries and a colossal 11 sixes.

At the other end, Sanju Samson played the perfect foil while remaining highly aggressive. Silencing recent critics, Samson brought up a fluent 50 off 35 balls, including two boundaries and four hits over the fence. Together, the opening pair stitched a monumental 142-run partnership before Rashid Khan finally broke the breakthrough, getting Sharma caught by Rahmanullah Gurbaz.

Afghanistan Fights Back in Death Overs

Following the dismissal of the openers, Afghanistan clawed their way back using smart variations in pace. Azmatullah Omarzai was the pick of the bowlers, changing speeds effectively to claim 2 for 27 from his spells, including the crucial wicket of Samson.

Skipper Shreyas Iyer chipped in with a steady 29 off 20 balls, and Shivam Dube added 14. However, regular wickets in the final five overs restricted India from crossing the 250-run threshold.

Abdullah Ahmadzai managed 1 for 38, while Rashid Khan ended his 4 overs with figures of 1/43. Ultimately, India scored a daunting 221/7, leaving the visitors with a steep mountain to climb.

With the required run rate hovering above 11 runs per over, the visitors will need a monumental batting effort to prevent a clean sweep.

In the IND vs AFG 3rd T20, India scored a massive 221/7 in Delhi following a record-breaking 30-ball century from opening batter Abhishek Sharma.

The 26-year-old left-hander turned the final match of the bilateral series into a personal masterclass of modern power-hitting. He was eventually dismissed for a staggering 108 runs off just 34 deliveries, leaving the field to a standing ovation after clearing the ropes at will.

With this unforgettable Abhishek Sharma century, the dynamic southpaw broke a long-standing national milestone previously held by Indian legend Rohit Sharma. Rohit had set the Indian benchmark with a 35-ball century against Sri Lanka in Indore back in 2017.

Powerplay Domination in 3rd T20

After Afghanistan skipper Ibrahim Zadran won the toss and elected to field, the opening duo of Sharma and Sanju Samson capitalized on prime batting conditions. The pair launched a relentless, coordinated counter-attack, propelling India past the 100-run milestone inside the first six overs of the powerplay.

Even world-class spin execution from Afghan captain Rashid Khan offered no immediate relief, as Sharma routinely used his feet to clear the boundary ropes with remarkable spatial timing. Khan eventually exacted a small measure of revenge by picking up Sharma's wicket in the tenth over, but the structural damage to the touring side’s morale had already been definitively rendered.

A Defining Blueprint for India's Future

This historic milestone caps off an incredibly productive assignment for the young opener, who has asserted absolute dominance across this three-match bilateral series. Having already anchored the series opener on Sunday with a decisive 32-ball 82, followed by a brisk 39 in the second match, his total run tally firmly cements his stature as an elite, indispensable force at the top of India’s modern white-ball transition blueprint.

With India holding an unassailable lead in the series, Sharma’s record-breaking batting masterclass ensures the hosts remain overwhelmingly positioned to finalize a clean sweep.

An explosive Abhishek Sharma century in 3rd T20 saw the opener blast a 30-ball hundred, shattering records during a dominant IND vs AFG performance in New Delhi.

NEW DELHI: Afghanistan skipper Ibrahim Zadran won the toss and elected to field first against India in the third T20I at the Arun Jaitley Stadium. Ibrahim Zadran cited the potential evening dew and Delhi's historically reliable chasing ground as the decisive factors for inserting the hosts.

Having already secured an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match bilateral segment following successive seven-wicket triumphs, Shreyas Iyer’s high-flying Indian outfit will bat first for the first time in this series. The Indian management is utilizing this dead-rubber finale to test their defensive batting credentials and assess middle-order flexibility ahead of upcoming global assignments.

Conversely, Afghanistan brings in strategic bowling variations, counting on experienced spearheads Rashid Khan and Fazalhaq Farooqi to extract early movement under the lights.

For the Men in Blue, flamboyant openers Abhishek Sharma and Sanju Samson will look to exploit the batting-friendly powerplay restrictions. With the series already in the bag, India targets a clean sweep, while a desperate Afghanistan side remains hungry to salvage pride and register their first-ever international T20 victory over the hosts.

The series is being played entirely at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, with the first match held on September 13 and the third scheduled for September 17. The Afghanistan Cricket Board and BCCI confirmed the three-match schedule before the series.

India Enter as Strong Favourites

India produced a convincing performance in the opening T20I. Afghanistan posted 156/8 after being sent in to bat, but India chased down the target in only 13.4 overs, finishing on 157/3 with 38 balls remaining.

Abhishek Sharma was the standout performer. The left-handed opener smashed 82 from just 32 balls, hitting seven fours and seven sixes. Ishan Kishan also played an important role with 42 as India took control of the chase.

India's bowling attack also made an early impact. Arshdeep Singh claimed 3/19, while Jasprit Bumrah, Axar Patel and Varun Chakaravarthy each took a wicket. Afghanistan were reduced to 43/5 before Azmatullah Omarzai and Mohammad Nabi rebuilt the innings with an 83-run partnership.

India will now look to maintain that momentum and seal the series with one match still to play.

Afghanistan Need a Better Start

Afghanistan have plenty of experience in their squad but were unable to handle India's bowling in the first match. Rahmanullah Gurbaz was dismissed for a duck in the opening over by Bumrah, while Afghanistan quickly lost more wickets during the powerplay.

Omarzai provided the major resistance with an unbeaten 64, while Nabi contributed 33. Their partnership gave Afghanistan a respectable total, but the early collapse left them with too much ground to recover.

For the second T20I, Afghanistan will need their top order to spend more time at the crease. Ibrahim Zadran, Gurbaz and the other top-order batters will face another difficult test against India's pace and spin options.

Rashid Khan also remains a key figure. Afghanistan's bowling attack has the ability to trouble India's batters, but it needs early wickets and better control to prevent another one-sided chase.

Key Players to Watch

Abhishek Sharma: After his explosive 82 in the first T20I, Abhishek will be one of India's biggest threats again. His ability to score quickly can put Afghanistan under pressure inside the powerplay.

Jasprit Bumrah: Bumrah made an immediate impact in the opener by removing Gurbaz early. His pace, accuracy and experience make him a major threat to Afghanistan's top order.

Azmatullah Omarzai: Omarzai's unbeaten 64 was Afghanistan's biggest positive from the first match. He will need another substantial contribution if Afghanistan are to post a competitive total.

Rashid Khan: Afghanistan will look to their star spinner to create pressure in the middle overs. His battle against India's aggressive batters could have a major influence on the game.

Afghanistan vs India Prediction

India have the advantage after their dominant opening performance. Their batting looked powerful, while their bowling attack restricted Afghanistan to 156 despite Omarzai and Nabi's recovery partnership.

Afghanistan have enough quality to make the second match more competitive, particularly if their top order survives the early overs. However, India currently have the stronger momentum and can finish the series with another victory.

Prediction: India to beat Afghanistan and take a 2-0 series lead.
