Arsalan Ash Defeats Yagami Before Going Down Against Zubair in EWC Tekken 8 Clash

Pakistan's Muhammad Zubair produced one of the biggest upsets of the Esports World Cup 2026 by defeating reigning Tekken 8 champion Arsalan Ash 3-0 in their latest upper bracket clash.

Zubair delivered a dominant performance throughout the best-of-five contest, using Dragunov in all three games to deny Arsalan any chance of a comeback. Arsalan began the set with Kunimitsu but suffered a 3-1 defeat in the opening game before switching characters. The change failed to turn the tide as Zubair claimed the second game 3-0, again with Dragunov.

With his comeback hopes on the line, Arsalan opted for Nina in the third game, but Zubair remained in complete control. He sealed another 3-1 victory to complete a convincing 3-0 sweep and eliminate the former champion from the upper bracket of the tournament.

Earlier, Arsalan registered a convincing 3-1 victory over Yagami in a best-of-five Tekken 8 showdown. He relied on Nina throughout the contest and controlled the match with confident gameplay. The reigning champion took the opening game 3-1 before extending his lead with another 3-1 win, putting Yagami under immediate pressure.

Yagami responded in the third game, using Reina to edge out a narrow 3-2 victory and reduce the deficit. However, Arsalan quickly regained control in the fourth game, once again defeating Reina by a 3-1 scoreline to wrap up the contest.

The undisputed Tekken 8 champion will now compete in the lower bracket semi-finals against the winner of CBM-KEISUKE clash. It would be interesting to see how he will turn up in that contest after facing a latest unexpected defeat against Zubair.
