Zimbabwe vs Bangladesh 1st ODI Zimbabwe Collapse to 50/5 in Early Overs
Zimbabwe endured a difficult start after Bangladesh elected to bowl first in the opening ODI of the three-match series. After 17 overs, the hosts were 50/5, with Bangladesh's fast bowlers making full use of the early movement on offer. Taskin Ahmed and Nahid Rana shared four wickets, while a sharp run out added to Zimbabwe's troubles. Innocent Kaia and Clive Madande remained at the crease, aiming to rebuild the innings after the top and middle order collapsed under consistent pressure from the visitors.
Bangladesh Pace Attack Dominates Early Overs
Bangladesh's decision to bowl first proved effective as the seamers struck regularly. Ben Curran and Brian Bennett showed some promise during the opening partnership before Bangladesh broke through. Bennett made 17 off 24 balls with three boundaries before Taskin Ahmed dismissed him. Curran added 18 from 19 deliveries but was run out through an excellent effort from captain Mehidy Hasan Miraz.
Zimbabwe's innings slipped further when Craig Ervine was bowled by Taskin Ahmed for a duck. Nahid Rana then removed Sikandar Raza for just one run and followed it up with the wicket of Wesley Madhevere, leaving the home side struggling at five wickets down.
Zimbabwe Look for Recovery After Early Collapse
At the end of 17 overs, Innocent Kaia was unbeaten on 12 from 34 balls, while wicketkeeper Clive Madande remained 2 not out from 6 deliveries. The pair now carry Zimbabwe's hopes of rebuilding the innings and pushing the total toward a competitive score.
Bangladesh remain firmly in control with disciplined bowling, accurate field placements, and energetic fielding. The visitors will aim to keep taking wickets during the middle overs, while Zimbabwe need a long partnership to recover from their difficult start and avoid being bowled out for a below-par total.
