After the withdrawal of Afghanistan from the upcoming T20I Tri-Series in Pakistan, Zimbabwe has accepted the invitation to become the third team of the tournament. The development came when many fans were speculating about the fate of the T20I Tri-Series. It has now been confirmed that Zimbabwe will replace Afghanistan in the tournament that is scheduled to start from November 17.
The venues of the series will be Lahore and Rawalpindi, so fans can expect a lot of T20I thrill in these cities during the matches. It will be interesting to see how the three teams prepare for this series, as it will play an important role in their build-up to the 2026 T20 World Cup.
The revised schedule of the series states that the first match between Pakistan and Zimbabwe will be played in Rawalpindi on November 17. Followed by that, Zimbabwe and Sri Lanka will come against each other on November 19 at the same venue.
The remaining matches of the series will then be played at Gaddafi Stadium, Lahore. It would be an action-packed series in which fans can expect electrifying matches between the participating sides.
Afghanistan made a hasty withdrawal from the tournament after the reports of cross-border unrest that, unfortunately, took the lives of three young domestic cricketers.
However, the withdrawal of Afghanistan didn’t change the plans of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB). They put out a statement, saying that the series will commence as scheduled before.
The news of Zimbabwe joining the series is therefore a positive sign, as it showcases the trust of other cricket bodies in Pakistan. It will send a strong message to the world that Pakistan is open to sports without mixing them with petty politics.
