Kaia Century Sparks Celebrations As Zimbabwe Defeated Bangladesh by an Innings & 85 Runs

Kaia Century Sparks Celebrations As Zimbabwe Defeated Bangladesh by an Innings & 85 Runs

Zimbabwe created history at the Harare Sports Club. Zimbabwe defeated Bangladesh by an innings and 85 runs in their one-off Test match. The match concluded on 30 June 2026, marking a monumental milestone for Zimbabwean cricket. This historic win completely outclassed the visitors across all four days of play, showcasing Zimbabwe's immense growth in the longest format of the game.

The Toss and Opening Day Dominance

The tone of the match was set on Day 1 after Zimbabwe won the toss and elected to bowl on a surface that offered early assistance to the seamers. The decision paid immediate dividends as Zimbabwe’s bowling attack ripped through the Bangladeshi batting lineup. Newman Nyamhuri led the wreckage, dismantling the top and middle order to finish with phenomenal figures of 4 for 61.

Bangladesh struggled to find any momentum, losing wickets at regular intervals. Former captain Mominul Haque was the lone fighter for the visitors, scoring a resilient 60 runs, but he received virtually no support from the other end. Bangladesh was bundled out for a meager 140 runs in their first innings before the opening day could even conclude.

Zimbabwe’s Massive First-Innings Reply

In response, Zimbabwe's batsmen capitalised on the brilliant platform laid by their bowlers. They put on a masterclass of patience, determination, and aggressive strokeplay to post a massive total of 410 runs. The undisputed hero of the innings was Innocent Kaia, who anchored the batting with a spectacular, career-defining 140 runs. His century wore down the Bangladeshi bowlers and shifted the match entirely in Zimbabwe's favour.

Contributions down the order, most notably an unbeaten 77* from Wesley Madhevere, pushed the lead past 250. Bangladesh’s veteran spinner Taijul Islam bowled tirelessly, picking up 7 for 138, but his heroic solo effort could not stop Zimbabwe from gaining a commanding 270-run lead.

The Final Blow: Zimbabwe Won by an Innings and 85 runs

Facing a monumental deficit, Bangladesh’s second innings mirrored the fragility of their first. Zimbabwe’s pace duo, Blessing Muzarabani and Richard Ngarava, produced an exhibition of lethal swing and bounce. Muzarabani tore through the defense of the Bangladeshi batsmen, claiming 4 for 65, while Ngarava chimed in with a highly economical 3 for 32. Experienced batsman Mushfiqur Rahim top-scored with just 34 runs as the visitors crumbled under relentless pressure.

Bangladesh was bowled out for 185 runs in their second innings on Day 3, handing Zimbabwe a legendary victory by an innings and 85 runs. Innocent Kaia was justly awarded the Player of the Match for his decisive first-innings century. This emphatic win gives Zimbabwe immense confidence as they prepare to host Bangladesh for the upcoming three-match ODI and T20I series.
