WTC Points Table Updated After Pakistan Beat West Indies in Second Test

Pakistan finally had something to celebrate in the ICC World Test Championship 2025-27. After suffering defeat in the opening match of the series, the visitors bounced back in style with an emphatic eight-wicket victory over West Indies at Queen's Park Oval. The result carried significance far beyond the series scoreline because it reshaped the WTC Points Table and gave Pakistan a much-needed lift.

Pakistan's turnaround looked unlikely after the first Test, where they were beaten by 90 runs. The series also began under fresh leadership after Babar Azam returned as captain. Questions surrounded the team's direction, yet the response in the second match answered many of those doubts.

West Indies posted 344 in the first innings through determined contributions from Justin Greaves and captain Roston Chase, both of whom struck valuable half centuries. Pakistan answered with authority. Abdullah Shafique produced one of the finest innings of his Test career, scoring a magnificent 160. Babar supported him with a composed fifty as Pakistan reached 387 and secured a useful 43-run advantage.

That lead proved decisive. West Indies collapsed in the second innings, managing only 117 before the innings ended. Pakistan's spinners completely controlled proceedings. Sajid Khan and Ali Usman claimed four wickets each, while Mohammad Ali chipped in with another breakthrough.

Needing just 75 to seal victory, Pakistan completed the chase with little trouble. Shafique and Babar remained unbeaten on 24 each, guiding the side home with an unbroken partnership that wrapped up the contest in convincing fashion.

The victory does not transform Pakistan into immediate contenders for the World Test Championship final, but it keeps their campaign alive and restores confidence after a difficult start. More importantly, it prevents them from remaining rooted at the bottom of the WTC Points Table, while the Pakistan vs West Indies Test exposed the growing concerns surrounding the Caribbean side's struggles in the longest format.

With several crucial Test series still to come, every result will carry extra weight. Pakistan have given themselves breathing room, while West Indies now face an uphill battle to escape last place before the championship cycle gathers pace.
