Lahiru Udara Smashed 188 As Sri Lanka Dominate WI vs SL 2nd Test Day 1

In WI vs SL 2nd Test Day 1, Sri Lanka reached 338 for 5 at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium in Antigua. Opening batsman Lahiru Udara anchored the innings with a monumental 188, shifting total control over to the visitors after they won the toss and elected to bat.

Udara Anchors Sri Lanka's Recovery

The morning session initially belonged to the home side's pace attack. Shamar Joseph struck two vital early blows, removing opener Nishan Madushka and then routing Dinesh Chandimal for just a single run to leave Sri Lanka reeling at 25 for 2. 

However, any early optimism for the West Indies was quickly blunted by a spectacular 215-run third-wicket partnership between Udara and Kamindu Mendis. Udara, playing with great composure, capitalized on an uncharacteristically loose bowling performance from the hosts' secondary attack. He punished width and steadily marched toward his maiden Test century off just 140 deliveries. 

At the other end, Kamindu Mendis looked fluent, contributing a well-made 84 off 120 balls. The massive stand was finally broken late in the afternoon when Mendis was smartly stumped by Shai Hope off the bowling of Justin Greaves.

Late Caribbean Resistance

Sri Lankan captain Dhananjaya de Silva then joined Udara to keep the momentum shifting, compiling a steady 33 from 88 balls. The pair added 93 runs for the fourth wicket, guiding Sri Lanka past the 300-run milestone.

Just as the visitors looked set to carry their dominance cleanly through to the end of the day, the West Indies fights back with the second new ball. Alzarri Joseph provided the much-needed breakthrough, dismissing Lahiru Udara to leave the score at 333 for 4. Merely an over later, Jayden Seales capitalised on the late momentum, striking with the new ball to leave Sri Lanka five down heading into the final overs of the evening. 

Bad light ultimately forced an early conclusion to the day's play at 83 overs. While the late double-strike restored some balance for the West Indies, Udara’s masterful 188 leaves Sri Lanka heavily in the driver's seat as they look to build a massive first-innings total on Day 2.
